Default Cleaning engine bay.

Sorry for the stupid question [&o]

My engine bay is getting pretty dirty, soooo. Do you just take a hose to the engine bay or do you wet down a rag?

I use a damp towel and then hit it with Armor-All cleaning wipes and then some protect-ant wipes(sparingly, so the dust doesn't build up so rapidly). I never use pressurized water and I try not to use too much water in general. This is my method.

3 things you'll need:

1. a bottle of Simple Green

2. a bottle of armor all

3. terry cloth towels/paper towels

squirt simple green sparingly in open spots of the engine bay and wipe down with paper towels. simple green is a degreaser as well as a cleaning agent so it will remove all that grime. once clean, take a wet terry cloth towel and wipe down the rest of the engine bay. after that, either spray armor all on a new towel or paper towel and wipe down parts of the engine that will shine, i.e. fuse box, top of fluid reservoirs, front of engine bay.

Do not use Simple Green it is not safe for aluminum. Use an APC (All Pupose Cleaner) instead.

Here are a few links that adddress this issue. Also Scrubbing bubbles works great.( Yes the bathroom cleaner) You do not want to get water near the COP it will casue then to arc and cause misfires.

I personally do not like the spray with water on the top half of these engines as it causes to many issues with the COP setup. You can however lightly mist the surrounding areas. and fender areas.

Here would have been a better place to post this type of question https://mustangforums.com/forumid_238/tt.htm

I just use my detail spray and a few rags for the painted and chrome stuff.
For the black plastic stuff and other miscellaneous, I don't recommend armor all. Its a magnet for dust. I recommend Aerospace 303, does the same job as armor all, doesn't stink like it, and doesn't attract the dust like it.
Just take about 30-45 minutes and it will look like new again. And wont risk damaging anything.
