In that case can a GTI have drone? I'm only asking because if a GTI can suffer from drone then I now know what drone is.
Yes, a GTI can have drone.

i have lots of mods on my car but still have the factory exhaust.

I have played with every muffler out there trying to get that deep sound without the drone.

None of them have worked for me. It seems like the better the muffler sounds, the more it drones [:@]

The only mufflers I have had that had zero drone were magnaflows but they are "straight through" mufflers so they lack that "rumble" that I am looking for.

Does "drone" go by any other name?

I run Hooker AeroChamber axlebacks on my GT, and they have very little, almost nonexistent drone. What little does appear happens at around 1800 RPM, but falls off quickly after that. I have noticed that after market mufflers tend to make things vibrate, and in the Mustang, this vibration transmit through the trunk area, turning the trunk into one huge resonator that is acoustically coupled to the cabin. Initially, I had a bag of tools in the trunk, but ended up taking them out because the vibes were actually making the tools buzz and rattle.

Ditto! I loved my Mac's except for the drone. I got rid of most of the drone with plenty of Second Skin, but I wanted to hear the exhaust from the rear not the cabin. I went back to stock and thought I had a "Lexus" LOL it was so quiet. Now don't get me wrong I loved how the Mac's sounded outside of the car and if I could have eliminated the drone completely they would be on my car still. I do have to say either it's my imagination or whatever but I swear this thing has more torque now. I added the CAI/Diablo tune with the Mac's at the same time so I never drove it with just the CAI/tune.

Take a look at the ford racing shelby gt GTAs. (from ninosport). I just installed mine and I love them. Much deeper sound than stock, all stainless, cheap ($269 less 5% right now, free shipping). I can't dedect any "drone", just rich v8 power. Others on the forum have also been happy with them. Look it up.
