Tons of people on another forum (installers) are saying they notice whine with some of the Motives. Heres the thread:

While there have been complaints I for one am convinced it simply depends on the ability of the installer. I have a few friends who have motives, we all had them put in at the same shop and none of us have experienced any whine.

Great advice ...its all about the instal and the knowledge the installer has...that is more critical then the part itself!
ORIGINAL: mustangman02232

motives are harder to set up however, so they tend to whine, make sure your mechaninc takes the extra 10 minutes to do it right and get IN WRITING that if they whine or get damaged due to improper install that the place will fix it

americanmuscle.com has them, the discount code is mustangboards

I had the Motive 3.90's for a week, I got rid of them because of noise. My installer said that it has to do with the cut of the gears and not so much the install. He installesTONS of gears, hes done it for over 15 years. He said that gears are matched sets, and he has found that Motives tend to not match the ring and pinion sets. he has used several sets to try and get a "best fit". he said a good installer can get most of the whine out but not all.he also said thatFord has used Motive and Richmonds to make theirgearswhen demand is up(these will have a'M' suffix),(this is only for 3.73, 3.90 and 4.30 and sometimes 4.10's)
The FRPP gears always set up a easier and have never whined in his experience. Motive makes a decent gear and so does richmond, generally if its still made in the USA it'll be ok, foreign made gears generally suck. So anywayI changed over to FRPP 4.10 and I Love them.

Here is a good thread on this - https://mustangforums.com/m_757372/tm.htm

^^installers that are about as smart as a monkey

only gears that WILL whine are richmonds and any others that are straight cut
