RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
After plugging in some numbers, going 3.73's staying with the stocksize diametertire of 26" is perfect, of course going with a taller tire of 28" will work well with4.10s also.

RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
how much difference is there between the stock gearing and the 3.73's? im seriously considering buying a set of gears but i would like to know if its really worth it (i wouldnt want to go any lower so 4.10's or 3.90's are a no go)
any input would be great

so does that make the .73's more worthy or no? and how much will it throw off the gas milage cause the wifey takes it to work every night ()

RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
Hey quick, I was really looking into the 3.73's and 4.10's for my AUTO. I went with the 4.10's finally and am hoping to get them installed in the next week or so. I talked to a BUNCH of different shops and ALL of them said that both 4.10's and 3.73's will work perfetly fine in the AUTO, it just depends on what or where you want your car to go. For the Strip 4.10's all the way. As for a Daily Driver, both are fine, it's just the matter of you being concerned with gas and the high RPM you idle cruising at around 65 MPH with the 4.10's.
I also got the opportunity to experience the driveability of both sets of gears in an AUTO, w/both of them having intake/tune and Exhaust. I personally fell in love with the 4.10's. It really didn't bother me on the highway at all, and throws you back in your seat when you really wanna take off from a dead stop. You will lose a little bit of gas mileage, but it's a Mustang IMO. As for the 3.73's, they were great too but they didn't have that extra "Kick" like the 4.10's did. I hope my info has helped you out a bit, and if you need any more help please let me know.

What stock tire do you have? OE 17 Pirellis are 27.3" diam.

my77stang, going from 3.31 to 3.73 will affect you MPG, but by how much ?? unknown, depending on the car, the mods and the driving habits of the individual, theres no way of telling what your MPG will be with a gear swap ( could be Good, OK, or Bad ). Right now I'm lucky if I get 17 MPG, and will sacerfice more for performance , if MPG is in any form a possible issue, then leaving the 3.31's in is the best option.

RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
LAK3RS, just saw your post (we where posting at the same time ), of course for me MPG is not an issue and even the high idle wouldn't be a concern, a small block V8 with OD, there should be No engineissue at all . My only true concern is did you run the4.10 Stang out, and if you did, did you feel like the car was out geared. Because 4th and 5th gear are so close ( final gear drive 4th being 1.00 and 5th being 0.75 )oh andwhere both Stangs on Stock tires?
Thanks justin

RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
thanks justin...... how much more kick in the pants did the 3.73's give over the stock 3.31's ? i guess thats probably my main concern, will i see a noticable difference making it worth the cash to buy em and have em installed?

RE: Gear Decision is some what close...
If you're car currently has 3.55 gears, you won't notice 3.73's. My last Mustang was a 96GT and I went from 3.27 to 3.73 and was not impressed. Go with 4.10's minimum and you won't regret it.
