20 Inch Wheels, Tires?

RE: 20 Inch Wheels, Tires?
Yes it is IMHO. I'll put my 235/55/17 pirelli Pzeros up against his 285/30/20's and smoke his *** in a straight line. I keep my pressure a little low just for such an occasion.
He does have a point about the 29.3 inch tire size which is 2 inches larger in diameter than stock. If you have 4.10 gears it might not be so bad.

Ok but isn't 285/30/20 to small with no sidewall on rear tires?

I have the KDW 2's and I love them! I also have 285/30/20 and the pics are before a 1.25 inch drop in the rear with Steeda sport springs. They perform well on dry pavement and could not tell you about wet traction as I never go in the rain or snow!

Any addiitonal feedback on the tire sizes for 20 inch wheels (20x8.5 front) and (20x10) rear? How does the Nitto 555 and BF Goodrich G-Force KDW2's perform?

RE: 20 Inch Wheels, Tires?
I felt 245 was too small for the fronts and went with a 265 and did not regret a thing. The dealer thought it looked nice too! JMO!

Go with that setup in the BFG KDW you will not regret it. That is what i run and I think it looks great and handle fantastic. By the way do not expect good mielage wear out of any of these performance type tires.

I have recieved a recomendation froma member on this board for the following:
Front: 245/35/20
Rear: 285/30/20

RE: 20 Inch Wheels, Tires?
I agree go with the 30 series tire. I did as well and would gladly put my setup against any stock set up off the line with the same performance mods to the motor.

hmm
Hold on a minute! If you are replacing your stock mustang tires (235x55x17 or 235x30x18) which are 27.1inches tall and replacing them with 295x40x20 which are29.5" tall! There has been many thread on 20" rims and tires in the past and most all of them end up with the same members 'sharing' their opinions. Now IF 29.5" tall tires were the onlytire avalible to fit 20" rims the I would be on the other side of this fence and agree most on here that20" hurt performance with no performance benefit that can over come the WEIGHT and change in HEIGHT difference.
imho Don't run the 295x40x20! They are just to tall.
I currently (ok summer tires) run255x35x20 on 20x8.5 in the front and 285x30x20 on 20x10 in the rear on both of our 06 Mustangs. If you get a light rim there is minimal performance loss (NONE if you take into account the added contact patch with the wider tire and have additional HP) because these rear tires are 1/4 shorter in height!

That would be like comparing apples to tangerines, becauseyou arepushing close to 335hp and I'm pushing 540hp! All you would see is my car'sA$$! Not a good idea to pick abattle when you don't know what weapon your apponent has hidden! lol!
PRGT,
IF one were to measure there is right at 1 inch less side wall when comparing a set of 235x50x18 to 285x30x20 tiresAlso note that there is almost the sameamount of difference between 215x65x16 (stock V6 Mustang rims/tires) to235x50x18 (optional GT Mustang rims/tires) !!!!
BUT you sure don't hear many people complaining about moving the weight away from center or how there's no sidewall so no sidewall flex during launch, blah blah blah...... when going from 16" to 18" rim/tire combo.
Most all you ever hear negative about20" combo is, for the most part, from people that have NEVER bolted a set up!
If you like 20" run the 255x35 up front and 285x30 in the rear and laugh at the non-belivers!

Oh yea there is NO WAY you roads can be any worse the these here in Alaska! Hell less then half of our roads are even paved!

I run the Foose Nitrous.
Currently using Falken Beta FK451's. 255/35/20 Front and 285/30/20 Rear.
There is still room for more tire even though I am slammed (Eibach Sportlines) to the ground.
I think that a 40 Series would be a perfect fit with these wheels. Goodyear has the 255/40/20's and 295/40/20's. These will be my next size tires once the Falken are ready for replacement.
