Yes, these cars do not pin you against the seat back as do many older cars. The reason is TORQUE! The torque peak on these cars is way up there in the 4,500 RPM range. My '85 Mustang GT had a torque peak around 3,000 RPM or something. Although it only had 210 HP, it would pin you against that seat and make you feel like you were taking off in the space shuttle.

Torque is real and is felt. Horsepower is a mathematical calculation. It basically has to do with work over time. Horsepower wins races, low end torque makes for a fun street car.

Make no mistake about it, my '06, 300HP GT would run away and hide from my '85, but the '85 FELT much faster. For me, since I don't race anyone, I would give up the all out racing prowess of the '06 if it had the torque of my '85.

Capt. America, I have not contributed to this thread since getting a Flashpaq tune optimised for my K & N CAI. Even the 87-Octane tune is night and day compared to the constipated condition in which the car leaves the factory. I implore you; if you want real performance out of your Mustang, you have to get a CAI/exhaust mod/tune. With a tune, at about 4000rpm the car settles onto its springs and takes off. I cannot put it any other way; you cannot makes these cars go really fast without tuning. They are too choked up and without the CAI/exhaust mods they cannot breathe. If they cannot breathe, well, it's like expecting an asthmatic to set a 100m sprint record.

Very well said Slow. I think that's what I MUST do at this point. Your comment, "constipated condition" almost made me fall off my chair.....
