This car is just a GT with all the FRPP suspension, an FRPP intake and tune, FRPP mufflers, and Shelby applied logos and stripes, some other cosmetic bits. Most of the peoplesGT'son here are already way better modded. Not worth it, gimme a 5.4L unblown Mach package instead.

Yeah it would have been nice for them to sell a detuned version of the 5.4 in the GT500 in the Shelby GT.

Kop
Yes the 66 shelby was just cosmetic
Ford offered a 271 HP Gt and so did shelby. Shelby called theres a GT 350.
In 67 Ford made a 427 GT and shelby called it a GT 500. Ford made 4 versions of this engine, (low riser, Medium riser, High rise, and tunel port) and two special 427s SOHC 427 also known as the cammer, and the double overhead cam DOHC 427 used at indy. Even the Shelby GT 500 KR was just a tunel port 427 GT, In 68 Ford made a 428 GT and shelby called it the shelby GT 500, and so on. Shelby made a FEW special cars for racing only , like the 1966 GT 350 R but you couldn't buy one. Shelby's were over piced and slow. the Shelby in 68 with the 428 would run 14.20s check Hot rod mag articals in that time. I bought a 69 Mach 1 in 68 that would beat any Shelby out there, except the 427 AC Cobra. We look at shelby's threw different eyes, I lived the era and you read about it.

...but it was rated at 306bhp, and the Ford parts counter had some awesome parts to make it even stronger. The reason the later Shelby's in the 60's become more of a cosmetic option was due to Ford's desire to assert control over Shelby operations. By 1969, Carroll Shelby was just cashing royalty checks. All Shelbys from the 60's are special, and I'd take one inless than 14.20 seconds...

That Shelby deserves just a little bit more like pullys, 4:10 gears, Maybe some headers shortys or long tube headers.

For those unaware, all of the parts on that car are okay on ours now. As of 11/06, Ford will honor your factory warranty if you have their"packs" installed at a Ford dealer.

It looks like a later 60's version Shelbyin my opinion - off the shelf parts that are inferior mixed with cosmetics. The only thing I do like about them is that they are assembled at Shelby American in Las Vegas - not the Ford assembly lineas the GT500 is.

Shelby’s of the 60s are expensive and worth the investment, "special" that’s an opinion. I think not. The 306 Hp Shelby was the kina misleading .it would do 0-60 in 6.7 sec and the quarter mile in 14.9. All shelby did was put a 700 holley ( I think it was 715) and claimed 306hp. In 65 and 66 the solid lifter 289 with ( think 550) holley was 271 hp, The Hyd cam Ford 4 barrel was 225 hp. The 271 hp was an option for the GT. Shelby made one bad ash mustang in 66 , it was the 350R. The 66 350H is the one Id like to have.
The 67GT 500 KR (King of the Road) 427 tunnel port was the fastest Shelby made until this year, as far as Mustangs go, The Elinor piece of crap don't count.
I'll take one also, not to drive, to sell to you. The 60s shelby's were just mustangs with shelby's name on them and a $2000 increase in price. They had 9 inch rear ends so did Mach 1s and Gts, they had C6 or 4speed so did Mach 1s and GTs, they had same under carriage (unibody) , same front end, same windows, same wiring, different cosmetic parts. Don't take my word for it, find a 60s shelby and look at it.
And "Fords control over Shelby" that’s funny. I remember that break up and the reasons behind it. Ford sold cars to shelby and he put his cosmetic stuff on them and sold them at Ford dealers, Ford was putting the same stuff on there GTs and Mach 1s and told shelby that he would have to sell them for less or change them more. Shelby wanted Ford to give him the cars and then he would take a chunk of profit when sold. Ford told Shelby to take a hike. The 69 428 Mach 1 would run 14.0s , the 69 428 shelby would run 1420-1430 in quarter. And if you going to sell a NEW product with FORD on it Ford should have control of the end product. .

you're missing quite a bit of differences on the original Shelby. It was more than a Holley carb. It was also "tri-y" headers, glasspack mufflers, 3.89 detroit locker 9" rear (NOT an option on the k-code gt), rear seat delete, driver's racing seat, added guages, traction bars, and relocated front control arm mounting points. the R-models had a ton more

your claims of quarter mile times are senseless. put some old redline tires on our cars and see if they go 13.6's stock - i don't think so. 14's back then was fast.

Very old news. The car should (could?) have been at the auto show last month but was nowhere to be seen!
Took these pics of the final product way back in mid-September!
I just wish they had changed the interior better. Looked like a standard GT inside. Maybe we can order one with the seats with contrasting inserts?
