Default Popping/Backfire sound

I was pulling out of work today and heard 2 loud "popping" or backfire sounds from what sounded like the passenger side exhaust when I was shifting from first to second gear. This has never happened before and did not happen againon the way home - I only live about 2 miles away though.

My car is stock. I use 87 octane gas. I have about 1400 miles and have had the car for 4 months. Live in S. Fla.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas what would cause this sound or a backfire in general? Should I check anything?

Any feedback or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It happens to me when my engine is cold and I rev it too fast or too hard. I'm pretty sure this is normal for our cars. Be easy on the engine til she's warmed up to normal temp and you'll be fine.

Yeah it will mainly do it when cold. Even more after my tune.

+1

I'm not an expert and have never experienced this but whenever I hear a backfire I assume it is a car with a problem of some kind. Is this really normal? (especially since the car is stock)

Can anyone else confirm this? What is the cause?

I know it would concern me.

Yup...in cold weather especially, if I don't let the engine warm up enough, I get TONS of pops when shifting gears. It's a fun sound, but if you're not used to it I can see how it would be a little unnerving.
