Install Notes on First Mods
Hey all,
Just got my GT Monday and wanted to show off some of my first mods. Also figured I'd share some advice I picked up while installing the stuff, some might be repetitive if you search, hope not though. Its all pretty basic but I'm sure it can help first timers.
Grill:
I installed the Grillcraft brand upper billet grill. The install wasn't so much hard as more involved than expected. You do need to cut the stock honey comb surounding the Pony mounting spot. DON'T use a Dremel to cut the stock honey comb. Use a jig saw instead, to my surprise, it worked much faster.
SLP Loudmouths:
The installation for the SLP LMs were really straight forward, just get under your car and do it. You only need a 13mm and 15mm wrench.. They truly sound awesome and everyone from older men to teenage girls think they sound amazing.
CDC Hood Pin Appearance Kit:
While the exterior mounts with adhesives many OEM lip spoilers are mounted with the same stuff. I'd be willing to bet these things can save your hood from hitting your windshield if it did lift off. To align the exterior mounts I used 2” masking tape on the hood from the front edge and the creases to make sure both sides were aligned even. Getting the wires through the grill wasn’t too bad, I think it was a 1/8th bit I used to drill the plastic. While its only held on with a zip tie right now (going to get a machine screw and nut to hold it in place in the morning) I’m going to mount the other end of the wire where pictured. There are already light punches in the sheet metal where I drilled the holes, you can use them to make sure both ends are aligned.
Escort Passport x50 Radar Detector: I’ve always liked that Escort’s use a telephone plug for their power. I bought a 6ft standard telephone wire from RadioShack, cut off an end. A new style phone wire has 4 internal wires, you only need the middle two for power and ground.
I wanted to get power from the dome light wiring but as the lights are on a dimmer circuit that did not work out. Instead I ran the wire under the headliner (there is no need to take off the headliner or pull the dome lights) down the A-piller (you can just yank it off) to the fuse box. I wrapped the power wire to the auto-dimming mirror fuse and grounded it around a nearby bolt. You need to remove the footwell trim to access a ground bolt.
iPod/Cell Phone/Emergency Light Wiring: In the center storage bin there is a piece of plastic which just pulls off. I have no idea what it is for but I figure it looks cheap enough to replace if one screws up. The top of the center console removes with the two screws in the back, then you just pull from the rear up. For my power source I used the 12v lighter wiring for the center compartment, and used two wire taps (no pic sorry.) I then used a 12v Y adapter to plug in my cell phone charger and Belkin Auto Kit.
The Belkin Auto Kit for iPods is perfect for 07s Stangs because of the stereo aux in. It was about $30. In addition to being an iPod charger it has a stereo audio out that has a fixed volume and bypasses the iPods circuitry for better SQ. The switch in the pic is a toggle switch for a dash mount strobe. The wire tucked nicely in front of the dash. I then ran it to the drivers footwell, under the steering column, and with a wire snake I pulled under the climate control/radio to the center console.

Speedy,
Congrats, and welcome to the forum....Definately did not waste any time!!
I tend to agree with you on this, and have been of this opinion since I installed em. I read another post way back, where someone said the instructions that they got with theirs, said to install the lanyards actually connected to the under side of the hood, so they would not have to be disconnected to lift the hood....??
I'm with you on this, and I also believe they would save the hood and windshield if necessary....
Again, congrats, and welcome,
Mike
