Hey ucdgreek. Let me know how that setup works for you. I am thinking of one myself. The FM transmitter is not cutting is at all.

Check the ford accessories site. they have an adapter to use the ipod with the factory head unit. its a little expensive but it may work for you.
I was thinking of this and you are right about it being expensive. It looks like a decent route until a new Alpine double-din comes out with full ipod compatibility. If anyone knows anything of the Ford ipod wire, I have a few quick questions. When you link up with this Ford wire, does this allow a person to use the ipod as the controler or do you have to go through the stereo? Also, does it charge the ipod?

Thanks guys, this is helping a lot!
I may be mistaken, but the ford one is an FM tramsmitter that connects to the antenna, like the old multi cd players did. So you don't get as good of a sound. With the PIE adapter I posted above, converts the CAN bus line into RCA jacks you can plug into. So it is straight audio.

Classj- So i have had this in my car for 2 days and i absolutely love it. It sounds like a cd. with slightly less bass. My friends have fm transmitters and i cant explain how much better it sounds. Installation was very easy too. I was a little hesitant to do it myself but the a car audio place i went to said it would cost like 125 to install. so i said screw it and did it myself. Very easy and the adapter fits perfectly under the radio. I just stuck it on the air bag modulator with some velcro. Then ran the cord into the the center console. So i have to say it sounds great and was well worth the 140 i paid to buy it. Only downside is that u have to remember to unplug the ipod when u turn off the car or it will drain ur battery. If u have any more questions feel free to send me a message

Thanks for the look out, nem, however, this solution wouldn't work for me because i only have the AUX button, I don't have the SAT or MP3 compatability. I have the ****ty bottom of the line stereo setup (no shaker). This is similar to the setup ucdgreek has. It looks like I may have to get an Alpine unit.

If I need to go Alpine and not get the double-din screen, what else can I get that would help eliminate the huge space a new HU would leave? Are there any nice little EQs that can be added just beneath it an Alpine unit?

Cruchfield has a nice adapter that cuts the Mustang's radio opening down to a single din space and adds a little cubby hole under the radio to stash little stuff. Much nicer than simply blanking otu the space.

You can kind of see it in this pic:

+1. That being said, they should have either put felt in the bottom of it, or preferably put a cover/door on it. I love it, but every time I get after the gas a bit, everything slides right out!! I gotta put some felt in it.....

Anybody know if someone makes a clip on door for these?????

Mike

Thanks for the pics and the heads up.

So than w/ all this said, which is the best ipod integrated head unit?

I have read some info on this alpine pictured below, but isn't available yet (but soooon).
It appears to be a front runner. After reading about it, baring some customers reviews, I would get it.

It will be available in Feb 2007 for around $450 (hope best buy can make me a better offer)
