if I were in your shoes I wouldn't take a FREE Shaker 500! Why would you want one?
Spend some decent money and get a good aftermarket stereo!

I have a 500 for sale if you are interested.

I replaced it with a Avic Z1 Nav when I purchase the Mustang.

I've had no trouble with skipping, but I do use only CD-R discs(so far) that I burn on my PC (music from iTunes, of course), and the Shaker 500 frequently tells me "Bad Disc" when switching discs. I've actually never had a commercially produced disc in there, so don't know if it would have the same problem with that or not. I probably ought to see, so I can replace if necessary under warranty.

Also, sometimes when I start the car from a cold start, the 500 will cycle through every single disc, while playing the radio, and then decide it can't play any of the discs. I have to keep pushing the CD button, then it says "initializing" and finally it will start playing the disc in slot one. I'm not sure if it would do that if I was using commercially produced discs or not. It never says "bad disc" when it does this, so it's hard to tell if its related to the other problem. Must test that as well, I guess.

Anybody else have these problems?

Anyway, to answer the skipping question, no, not once in 3500 miles, and I ALWAYS have the CD's playing. I'll test the other stuff in the next few days and post results.

I never had problems with mine. Didn't skip and played almost all cds I tried. I agree that you can get better quality for 150-170 that you would be spending on a shaker. But if you want the 6 disc as the main selling point, it is the best buy you will find. The 1000 is no different that than 500 unless you actually have the rear set of subs.

Why are you looking at the shaker?

I've never had my shaker 500 skip on a regular audio CD (either burned or commerical), but it doesn't do really well with MP3 CDs that I burn. It seems like sometimes it get loaded up and can't keep up with the decoding, because I can play an MP3 one day and it will be fine, then play the same song the next day and it will have issues, then later during the week it will be fine again.

In comparison, I can remember my old old pioneer DEH1000 (single disk CD player) lasted 8+ years of constant use and abuse (probably slightly overloaded in terms of impedence on some channels ), and it skipped all of 3 times I think; once when I ran over the worst railroad track crossing I've ever seen going way too fast, once when I nailed a sidewalk doing like 30+ MPH in an ice storm (I swear the entire dash moved 3 inches), and...one other time I can't recall. They just don't make them like they used to.

I never had any problems with my Shaker 500, but I only had it for a month before putting in an AVICZ1. Now it'sjust sitting in the box.

The reason I wanted one is because I have gotten my cars broken into way too many times and have gotten my stereo and speakers stolen, so if I have a stock looking stereo then maybe it will be overlooked.

Just go aftermarket...you get a lot more for the money and a better product as well. I have the shaker 500 with no issues so far but the sound quality is typical factory sound. Nothing beats aftermarket

I have a custom aftermarket system in my jeep. But for a stock system the 500 rocks. I have had no problems and the guy who made my custom system (6k watts) was impressed for a "factory system" Although he did say in about 6 months the speed metal I listen will trash the speakers.
