Its probably just condensation, causing fungus to grow.

Turn the car on and put the heater to max and the fan to 4. Let it blow hot air for 30min.

This trick usually works.

Geesh! Can't blame the smell on the dog, or burning brakes? LOL

check the passengers side for dampness in the carpet. See the big, long post for all the info.
Also, your heater exchanger could be leaking. Happened in my 81 in high school and has been a long time problem area. Is Ford still using that in the S197's heater?

If the smell almost makes you throw up it's a dead animal. If it's a fungus, additional heat and moisture will add more fungus! 90% chance one of your 6 hamsters has died under the hood. If buzzards and vultures are sitting on your hood, most likely a dead animal. If you turn on the fan on high and poo pellets hit you, most likely a dead animal.

dead critter has fallen to bottom of heater/airbox. Keep any dry bags dog/cat food anywhere near your ride? Mice love the source of food and will fill your vents with it and thier nest

lol nope no pets, but seeing that my dad found a rat all mushed in his rear brake when he was changing them, they've probably populated this area by my house
