Default shaker hood

are there any performance gains from it, and what exactly does it do?

It is a functional hood scoop... that brings air right to your intake... although it looks bad *** i havnt seen any signifcant gains from it for the money... but i was thinking about it because it looks old school and is functional

The new shakers don't work like the old ones. Originally (back in 1970) the shaker allowed ram air to flow straight down the carb (through the air filter) into the intake. The new ones provide no ram air effect (too many turns in the intake pipe) but may cool down the intake charge if you've got it plumbed into your cold air box.

Like they said - very little if any performance gains. You would be better off with a good CAI+Tune+axleback for performance and still have money for a "non-functional" hood scoop if you like the look of one. As you can see the Shaker "no ram air effect". It's as functional as a straw.

Of course if you want to spend the $800+ on a "slightly-functional scoop" because it "looks cool as hell" it's great. IMHO - the Shaker is very expensive for what it does and looks way too small for the hood. Oh - I have seen it close up. Some people who have them usually know a lot of things though and are cool...
