quick question about factory warranty!
would pro 5.0 shifter would void my warranty? i mean, lets say if i had transmission issues, or anythingelse, would dealer tell me that shifter is aftermarket and waranty is voided?
thanks.
thanks.
The answer is yes AND no. I hear a lot of horror stories about ANY modifications voiding your warranty totally. This is what Ford will try to tell you. I have been calling around myself trying to find a dealer who will install a different rear end for me.
But the FACT is, there is something called the Magnuson-Moss Act (not sure how that's spelled). This is a Federal Act that requires dealers to PROVE that the modification you did caused the actual damage. For instance, if you put lowering springs on your car, and your engine locks up, they have to pay for the engine repairs.
If they ever give you any trouble, get the service manager to sign a paper saying that the modification you did caused the problem. After you put the piece of paper in your pocket, ask him if he's heard of the Magnuson-Moss Act. At that point he will either have to fix the problem, prove that YOU are at fault, or have the Feds investigate the matter. There is a complaint number for this Act that you can call (but I don't have it handy) I'm sure the piece of paper you got him to sign will be of interest to the Feds.

Dave's right, the Magnuson-Moss act does say that the dealership can only deny you warranty service if they PROVE that your mod caused the problem.
The problem is that in real life, things aren't so cut-and-dried. If they tell you no, they won't service your car...you don't have much of a choice. What are you going to do? Take them to court? You'd better have deep pockets, and that still doesn't get your car fixed.
Personally I would call around and check with different dealers and see. Some dealers are mod-friendly and some are not. Many dealers are OK with mods if you have them installed by the dealership. That can cost you a little more money but you do get peace of mind with your warranty, if that is something that concerns you.

All the waranties will be gone & our stangs will be worth millions when Ford goe belly up. 6 billion dollar loss in one year, how long can that continue? Just kidding but I hope they can turn it around.
If you trash a synchro or linkage - it will not be covered. The failure has to be directly attributable to the modification. You have nothing to worry about in regards to engine/axle/driveshaft. Trans is a different story but the synchros are the only thing that would be affected by a shifter.
Don't get all righteous withMagnuson Moss. This is actually intended to protect themanfuacturer. Warranty addresses defects in manufactured parts orcraftsmanship. (you did read that document right?)
Give Ford 12 citizens:
"This is how a synchro and a shifter are related. We have no synchro issues with stock shifters. This guy hastrashedsynchros and a short shifter (likely along with other "performanceenhancing mods", that of course are likely bought by people who drive aggresively). His synchro(s) are blown and he has a shortshifter.......... Aggresive driver...... performance mods.......short shifter......... shifting mechanism damaged......hmmmmmm It takes a genius to figure that one out. Good luck winning that case!

"Magnuson-Moss act was enacted by Congress in response to the widespread misuse by merchants of express warranties and disclaimers."
Thanks guys.. looks like it is all up to dealer! well, i know clutch is not covered by warranty and my clutch is slipping. (stock car with 16k miles on and i amnot racing everyday and matue enough to know how to drive a car normally). My wife is working for ford motor co. at dealer development and she has some dealerships to go sometimes and do bussiness.. she talked to dealer owner and he asked me to come by and drop the car and he can prive me a loan car. i am hoping they would cover but i really doubt it.. another question, pro 5.0 shifter has NOTHING to do with clutch right?
thanks again.
thanks again.
