Default Pulleys: please educate me

Gents, I've done my duty searching for related threads but I'm still not as enlightened as I'd like to be re. this mod, so please bear with me.

Here are my questions:

- Is it worth adding to the mods I have installed already (see sig)? In other words, will there be a noticeable gain in HP and acceleration?

- The car is warranteed. I don't mind doing a little horse-trading with Ford but I don't want to be told "you're an idiot to have done this to a warranteed vehicle".

- What is the downside? I'm aware that UDPs should not be installed when there is too much of a draw from the battery but all my electronics are stock (Shaker 500) plus Sirius. However, living in CA I will be using my a/c a lot in the summer; is this a factor?

- Which brands should I investigate?

As always, thanks for your help.

I have them along with the shaker 500 and all stock electronics, no difference. In fact its only crank and water pump pulley , not alternator like the older cars. Its about a 1-2 rwhp gain, in my opinion i could have made better performance upgrades for the 200 bucks, but i did what i did. Did i notice it? No, but thats not to say its not there. Like i said 1-2 rwhp gain, 200 buck...meh looking back i should have saved that and eventually got some new tires or something.

Serious mis information right there if I am reading it right. Sure it does not come with an ALT pulley but it still slows the alt down. It slows EVERYTHING down because the drive pulley (Crank Pulley) is smaller. Also 1-2hp does not align with other posts. However, I do not have a before and after dyno.

+1 Bingo.

The different size crank pulley slows down EVERYTHING (alternator, water pump, A/C compressor, power steering pump....) by about 15-20%. The larger water pump pulley slows down the water pump even more.

About 8-10 RWHP is commonly seen on the Dyno.

I would not run UDPs if you have a big aftermarket stereo, but with the stock stereo or some minor upgrades you are fine.

On my car I measured the A/C performance before and after. I installed my UDPs in the middle of the hot Texas summer, and I saw the A/C temps at idle go up a few degrees. However, that was purely based on the thermometer. I could not feel a difference personally.

+2
I have had the Steeda pullies installed for about 6 months now and no issues, although the AC doesn't seem to be quite as cold at idle. Highway speeds, no issues at all.

Yes you are right it slows everything down, but i was saying not to the extent that the older ones did ( had a 89 fox im refering to) with the alternator pulley as well. Not significant enough to notice anything with your in car electronics however. Also i do not have the dyno sheets to prove it so call my bull****, but it claims 8-10 rwhp, but i had my car dyno'd before then dyno tuned after every mod i put on, about 1.5 rwhp was what it added. Now maybe you are reffering to dyno jet numbers, i dont know, but i was dynod on a mustang dyno, they tend to show real hp numbers. You can take that 8-10 and write it on the advertisements if you want, to each their own.

Ok, does anyone that posts about 8-10 hp gain out of pulleys really know what they are talking about? Just because you read it in a magazine does not mean you get 8-10 to the wheel. You MAY and i say MAY gain it to the crank. I had pullies installed in my 89 and saw really only a difference of alternator output, of course my pullies were only around $80. Yes i work at a mustang shop and the truth is, pullies add 1 to 2 horsepower at tops. The second poster does know what he is talking about. If you go by what magazines say, horsepower would not be such a chase of what it is. If i had to say, dont buy them. But, i am sure you think your stock mustang put(s) down 300 to the wheels because the factory says it does right?

I am not on here to sound likme an *** or anything, i just want to right knowledge to get out so when people add little things like pullies and exhaust to a stock mustang, i hope they do not expect to see numbers above 290. People that claim over 300 with this little upgrades do not know, so do not take their advice in stive.

Thanks.

Heh, no. I had to mod it to get anything like that.

The UDPs slow things down at idle but as you drive, the RPMs go up and the alternator, water pumpand AC compressor will be running at a normal operating range. So, if you plan to operate all of your appliances at idle only, then don't do this upgrade but if you want to do it to gain horsepower while you're driving, go for it!!

Slowhand, I was saying with the mods you have, you are not above 300, we just did a car with the same mods as you, and put down 285. With a custom tune, not a handheld superchips tuner.
