COMP CAMS!!!
saleen, isnt it possible to do with the motor in the car? cant you just remove the valve covers and remove them? i would think if you were carefull to line up the cams before removing and kept the chains taught while the cams were out it would be possible (but i havent seen these apart which is why i would like to know)

I did mine in the car.Itis a 10+ hour job with the spring change, the cams themselves are a breeze. We did a set for someone else and charge $1000 labor. My tuning was done with an SCTII by RWTD in Mobile Al. He did an awesome job with the tuning and I have had 0 problems.
i dont get whats so hard about the spring change? when working in the machine shop we had a tool that you just pressed down on the springs with while the keepers were loosely sitting between the valve stem and the retainer - it pushed the retainer down and the keepers slid into place. we used this on anything OHC cause you cant get a normal spring compressor in there. if this would work, with filling the cylinders with air i would change out the springs on both heads in the vehicle in probably 30 minutes. btw to remove you just use a deepwell socket on top of the retainer and smack it with a hammer, the keepers pop right out.
am i missing something?

Unfortunately you cannot get a straight shot clearance on the springs. They are under around and behind everything. The castings in the head are a clearance issue on getting to them as well.. I have done what you describe and it would be a lot easier if you could do it that way. The ford shop manual actual says to pull the motor for a spring change.
