Default So Motor Trend tested the P Jones Saleen

What a piece of crap this car is. 61k for a car which only runs .3 seconds faster than stock but has 100 hp more than stock??? They ran 13.3 for 61k!!!

Saleen jumped the shark a long time ago, it's time they disappear. I do like how the P Jones and Saleen's look but If I HAD to buy an aftermarket tuned Stang, I'd go Roush.

You could get a 1st gen z06 for 30k and spank the living day lights out of this car and buy a brand new Stang for 30k which will run almost identical times.

my 2 cents.

Motor Trend times are not slower, they test every car in the same manner. Sure conditions change the times, but lets say they were wrong by .3 secs, so a 61k sports car runs a 13.0 flat???

It's over priced crap! Saleen jumped the shark.

It's a collectible item. Only people with the money to burn are buying them for the most part. What was its trap speed...because I would bet it's up near 108+mph, which would be a 12.50s-12.70s car stock other than tires in the hands of a decent driver.

For a 400HP/390LB-FT car you think it would run at least half a second faster than the 300HP GT..

I still would love to have one regardless

The reality is a stock stang with stock tires runs 13.6's for 30k less or so much cheaper is the stock stang you could buy 2 of them for the price of this crap..

The car is more than just its 0-60 and 1/4 mile ET. Saleen has improved every aspect of this car, from brakes, interior, driveline,to suspension. Granted those improvements seem to be from the Saleen parts bin, maybe they are adjusted for this car, I don't know. Motor trend claims the weight is 3602lbs which is much heavier than a stock GT which is a shame, they should have trimmed it down if they wanted to keep it in the Trans-Am racing tradition of having stripped out production cars. However, I have seen the car in person and it looks very nice, much better than the standard saleen.

The main things that are important about this car is the 5.0 mod motor with the forged internals, the limited 500 car production run, and the PJ lineage. The PJ name will keep the initial price high and garauntee it either stays that high or increases in value. Does Jack Roush make a comparable product? No, they don't have a 302 and the Roush name ranks below saleen as far as actually being a driver/racer. Yes he build great nascar engines, but so what? Does Roush have a product that can best the PJ 302 saleen in performance, yes, its stage 3 will best it in a straight line and around the road course for less money. Can you get a base GT and mod it to beat the Roush for less money, yes you can. Are there plenty of other new and used cars that can better the PJ Saleen's numbers? Yes, but if that's all you cared about, which it sounds like you do, you would be an idiot to buy the PJ Saleen. Asa matter of fact, you should sell your mustang and get that Z06 since 0-60 and 1/4 ET is of the utmost importance to you because the mustang is not the fastest 25-30K car out there, there are plenty of used cars in that price range than are faster.

If you think that car will increase in value, then I have some swamp land to sell you.

If those hertz shelby rental cars can keep their value and sell well at actions, then why can't a PJ car?
