Default Changing my oil Tomorrow

Okay, since this is my first car that I really got into, this is also my first time changing my own oil[&:]. I got ramps, the oil (Mobil 1 5W 30 full synthetic), a new filter(motocraft), a drain pan and a funnel to put the new oil in so I'm all good on parts. The car has only about 8500 miles on it, so my question is will I need to change the "oil drain plug gasket"? I'm going off of what I read somewhere on the net that recommends changing it everytime I change the oil.

Secondly, will I be able to unscrew the oil filter by hand or do I need a tool. The site said I might need an "oil filter wrench" but I've never heard of that before.

Overall, I know this aint rocket science, I've just never done it before. I did my own CAI and other stuff , so I know I can do it easily, I just don't want to do anything retarded and mess up my baby. All help welcome.

The filters are tight from the factory youll need an oil filter wrench unless you have gorilla hands. The drain plug will go right back in the way it came out, no gasket to worry about. Still dont know why you guys want to spend more on oil than you have to, but Mobil thanks you.

lol @ "gorilla hands"!!! I guess I'll have to go to autozone and pick up a oil filter wrench then. And why am I spending the cheese for the full synthetic??? I'm an easy sell when it comes to my baby. Nothing but the best!!!

also remember when you put your oil plug back in not to over tighten the bolt you can strip the pan and a hint to help with start up is to put some oil in your new oil filter so it doesnt dry start. Good luck and i thought the oil should be 5w-20 or is that only for the 2005. Just curious.

I got the 5W30 b/c thats whats Brenspeed is selling...lol. If 20 is the right weight for this car then I'll switch. ALL INPUT NEEDED, WHAT IS THE CORRECT OIL WEIGHT FOR THE S197?

hello sorry for the picture but you can see on the oil fill cap it says 5w 20. Though it is up to you. 5w 30 works also. But if you are wanting to keep it with what it has now its 5w 20.

Yes one other thing is when you put your oil filter on get it hand tight then only 1/2 turn after that. This is so you dont squeeze out your seal and also strip the block. This would suck.
