Default RE: Oil change @ 5000 miles??

I currently have about 1800 miles on my 07 GT. I have had it for about five months. I wont hit 5000 miles for another six months. Rather than miles, what time interval should I change my oil at (6 months 8 months 12 months)?

i dont see time being an issue unless it was a LONG time. also most people on here are changing for the first time before 5k just to get out any initial contaminates. I'd change it at 2000, then 5000, then every 5000 - but thats just me. also it helps seat the rings and generally let everything break in if you waited until at least 5k for going to full synthetic if thats what you wanna do.

I don't use my car a hell of alot, but I'm not going with the time recommendation, that can get expensive! (Used to do that with previous cars) Like someone said above, as long as its not too long of a time interval.

My plan: Change at 3k intervals, Motorcraft oil and filter, done by the dealer until my warranty runs out. (In my case, 3 years will end my warranty before the 30k miles)

I like the 3k rule because we're used to it, the cost is not that bad, its safe - and I know that the usage of the vehicle changes the maintenance needs drastically.
Example:
Police cruisers -Idle about what, 12 hours a day? Drive then the average joe miles of 1000 miles a month(realistically its much more, but for points sake).
Studies have shown that 1 hour of idle time is equal to 33 miles of light load driving.
12 hours/day * 30 days = 360 hours/tot.
360 hours * 33" ide miles/hour" = 11880 "idle miles/month"
11880 + 1000 = hmm uh, 12,880 miles per month!!!

Romeo makes a tough motor huh? Consider how these cars are driven! Just because it can survive it doesn't mean its good for it.

My point is: Iknow the engine in all of yournew Mustangsfrom top to bottom and this is one engine that will benefit from clean oil. The extra valve and the VCT assembly are the majority of the reasons - but good reasons nonetheless. This engine does not like little particulates in the oil. KEEP IT 3K FTW!
Fine metallic glitter is normal on the first change or so, by the way.

Y'all are overboard on this. CHANGE it when you want, and how you want. The truth isthis :"the MAJORS" have convinced everyone that 3K is the "new" and"acceptable" standard. Furthermore, everyone has been "duped" on synthetics.
Everyone, has an opinion, and everyone is right. Put in what you want, and when you want to change it. Most ppl "follow" the crowd, so be proud of your engine oil choice.
IMHO, TV commercial synthetics are GARBAGE, but, they do a wonderful job selling garbage to the ppl. Think about that.

Change it every 3000 with a good quality motor oil like valvoline, and you'll be good to go for a couple of hundred thousand miles.

and Rupp,..... that's exactly what Valvoline WANTS and EXPECTS you to do. Those TV/ NASCAR Commercials ARE working.
