RE: decipher this tire code for me, need mucho tire help please.
shaguarama: I'm running 17" x 9"deepdish wheels, currently with the stock tires (235/55s) but I'd like to get as wide a tire as I can without sticking out too far or rubbing. What would you think would work?

Go to "bigcustomwheels.com". You can put in your current tires/wheels and compare side by side with other sizes. As you'll see if you do this, you can't use 255/40/17s; they'll be over 2" shorter than you now have (big space!). My observation is the best bet would be either 255/50s or 265/50s(if you can find them).

BFG has a few levels on their performance series.
KD - Highest performance, worst for wet weather
KDW - Midrange performance, okay for wet weather
KDWS - Lowest performance but best for wet weather.

I have been reading different posts about tire size for some time now. Most posts that are looking to go to a wider tire listthe size 275/40-17.The problem I found withthis size is that the diameter is more than 5% smaller. Also the rim width must be a least 8" instead of the factory 7" rims. I went witha 275/50-17,Direct Tire list the minimum rim width for these tires at 7 1/2". With only this small of a difference they had no problem installing the 275/50-17 on the 7"rim. Also rather that decrease the diameter bymore than 5% the diameter was increased by 2%. This option was more attractive to me because Iam 6'3" and do not want to lower my Stang or have to live with a wide wheel well opening. Also the higher profile does not require the wider rims and you cankeep your stock rims, personallyI like the stock rims and stock look but wanted the wider trie. This option worked well for me, at 100 mph your speedo is only off by2 miles per hour. If you have a tuner you can adjust your speedo to compensate for the larger tire.

The factory wheel is 8" wide, not 7" wide. Maybe this is why they had no problem installing them
