Default ford racing cold air intakes

i was thinking of buying one from ford racing. does that set up need programming as well?
How does that one compare to the others on the market?

I think the mods i want to do would be the cai, programming, and a shifter.
thanx

there are 2 current discussions about the FRPP CAI....use the search!

I would recommend a different setup.

C&L or JLT with custom tune from either Brenspeed or B amachips.

speaking from firsthand experience (i bought a K&N Typhoon clone for 100 bucks with an apporx 10hp gain) dont waste your money on anything other than a C&L or a JLT and get it with a tuner when you buy it. Brenspeed.com is highly recommended here, they have excellent customer service and will give you a custom tune to work with any other mods you have and your new intake.

for what its worth, the differences between the C&L and JLT are...

JLT is 100 bucks cheaper, has 1-2 hp gain over the C&L, and for a little extra can be ordered in color correct paint to match your vehicle.

C&L has a "cleaner" look - and an excellent fit, it looks like something that the car SHOULD have come with from the factory.

oh yeah, and from what i hear either intake and tuner package nets an increase of around 35+ RWHP. also, if you buy fron Brenspeed.com they will give you free upgraded tunes if you add more mods later on.

I switched from the C&L to the Ford racing intake. I didn't like the look of the C&L and cheap plastic heat shield. I'm still running an (updated) Brenspeed tune, but Ford Racing will send you a tune after you register your intake and give them your PCM P/N if you want to. Performance wise I didn't feel any difference after the switch. A lot of the gains will come from a good tune. BTW, the FRPP intake is made by Steeda, you can buy the Steeda + tune combo from Brenspeed also.

... as long as you buy these mods from them, otherwise they'll charge a small fee for the new tunes, which is fine by me.

I've got the FRPP (CAI, Ford racing tune and GTA mufflers),
and even though it will probably give you slightly less of a h.p. gain ("only" 20 h.p. compared to 25 - 30 for certain other combos) for more money, if you've got a new GT (under 1000 miles) then you'll be eligible to keep your full 3 year 36,000 mile warranty intact IF you have it installed by an authorized Ford Motorsport dealer (or a 12 month 12,000 warranty if you've still got less than 12,000 on the clock).

So, GT Newbie, wouldyou mind tellingus what you paid for the whole package including the dealer install? Just trying to gauge whether this would be cost effective for me. I definitely want to keep the warranty intact. I was under the impression thatinstalling an aftermarket intake or mufflers, for example, would notnecessarily void your warranty. Is the warranty issue just related to the retune? Thanks.

Most CAI tune combos are not making 30 hp, they make about 20 just like the FRPP. The FRPP tune is actually pretty good, but you cant modify anything with it.
