Default painting question

got a tungsten grey gt that should be here next week according to the dealer after tracking it. i am putting the street scene body kit on and want to put the steeda street wing and california dream ram air hood on...well we talked to the body shop that is installing all this for us and they said that the paint on the body kit and rest of car will be fine, but the hood and wing are made of a different material and the paint won't match...is this true? does anyone have expreience with this?

that is BS and they should be able to get the paint code and have the paint matched with no problem. The should be using a plasitcizer additive for any flexible plastic parts. They may not be able to perfectly match the orange peel or the precise way that the metallic lays down, but that is the case with any metallic paint. The material of the part to be painted should not matter with enamel paint, save forthe need for the plasticizer.

That having been said, why muck up a nice clean car with a body kit and a wing? Put your money where it counts...on performance upgrades.

You should to talk to a couple more shops anyway. They are correct that color match is more difficult with adjoining surfaces that are in different materials (but not impossible). The wing will match fine. ...it may not match 100% in reality but because it it not an adjoining flat surface one would never know. The way the light reflects on the body panels is the key and the wing is the last component you need to worry about a color match on. The shop should at leastdolike three or so tests for you over different color primer before doing any of the components. The hood cannot be done alone and expect to have it match. The surrounding upper adjoining surface to the hood needs to be done at the same time, with the hood in position; (same primer, base and clear). Only have a shop do the work thatroutinely color sands the clear coatand rotary buffs it. ...think it's time you shop around some more, don't rush choosing a shop.Best of luck!!

No, spoiler is an easy match; hood should be painted on the car with the surrounding top surface adjoining areas as well. This way the entire flat nose surface will have the same tint and clear coat reflection. (You will not have OE orange peel with aftemarket clear that is sanded (#2500 or #3000) and rotary buffed)

I am not one for the wing but it's about what you like. I could see a different hood. Go for it; just talk to a few shops; you'll know which one is right for you.

I use to work at body shop.

I think what they are telling you is correct, but you wont notice.. its normal.
Just like the difference in color between a fender and front bumper...
they look slightly different b/c of the material which is being painted on.

what about the possibility of repainting the entire car the same color, with the body kit in one shot? I just got the cervinis kit and have a few pieces that need to match...as well i want to lay down some black stripes on the tungsten. Would it be better to repaint the entire car?
