Rattle from the dash?
I started my car this morning, and it sounded like a friggin rock was dropped in my fan! ( not litterally, but you get the picture). I sat there wondering what the hell this noise was, and it quieted down a little. I narrowed it down to somewhere behind the dash, it wasnt engine noise becuase i could only hear it from in the car, and LOUD. After driving about 2 miles it only happend either when i revved it up a bit or i was down shifting. Does anyone else have this issue? I understand minor rattles are normal, but to me this isnt too minor. Is this warrateed? Or will they look at me like im retarded? Any input would be greatly appriciated, thanks.
I don't have that problem, but I've got a rattle in the dash over on the passenger side. I narrowed one of the sources down. Appears that the lock for the glove compartment rattles. Then there's still something else, I think it's actually the dash cover itself, or one of the panels. Ya know, I don't mind that the Mustang isn't all decked out on the interior like a luxury vehicle, but I wish they had put just a wee bit more effort into the quality. Anywho, I know I didn't really answer YOUR riddle, but just thought I'd toss another rattle sound out there too. But I'd definitely go take it to the dealer, can't hurt...make them work for your business.
you dash rattle is where the a pillar meets the dash. i have seen the fix posted somewhere ill try to find, buttopush on the corned of the dash near thewindshieldto see if it goes away.
i almost wish for hearing loss. i am a rattle freak i cant stand them. i work for a dealer and have had one of my techs fix a couple diff ratles, but have decided that a superchagred, lowered mustang with 20's is going to rattle, so back to the hearing loss wish

I had the same "Cricket" noise in mine and it was worst at colder temperature, so I tried a suggested fix taht was to add the foam where the dash meet the metal plate and it's gone.
Here's the instructions I have used:
The source of the rattle is where the dash top panel meets a sheet metal support pad far forward at the windshield base located at the extreme end of the dash on both sides.
Like many of the other symptoms noted in these posts, my rattles seemed to occur when going over bumps, rough surfaces or under certain engine vibration conditions. It gets worse in colder weather because the plastic shrinks and the gap opens up slightly.
What made this hard to track down was the propensity of the rattle to "echo" or travel down the hard plastic dash top. I had difficulty telling if it came from the dash top, the A pillars or under the dash. It seemed to come from everywhere at one time or another.
However, 2 weeks after implementing the fix all the previous rattles have gone. It's the first time in 6 months I've had a rattle-free car!
Here is the fix:
- Remove the A pillar moulding (as described in other posts)
- Look forward through the exposed gap to where the dash top panel meets the windshield (a flashligh may help). You should see a bump on the plastic dash that sits on a metal pad. That is the source of the rattle.
- If you tap the dash panel or lift it up and down you can clearly see how the rattle is created
- Place a small piece of foam with adhesive (like a piece of weatherstripping) on the metal pad. It's hard to get in there, I used a long thin screwdriver with the adhesive backed foam on the end. I lifted the dash top slightly, placed the foam on the pad and pushed down on the dash to grab it, then pulled out the screwdriver.
- Confirm the contact point is damped by tapping the dash top
- Replace the A pillar
- Repeat the fix for the other A piller. Watch out for the wiring harness getting in the way on the passenger side.
Some cars may have other problems like improperly installed A pillar mouldings or loose vent bezels, as noted by some posters. However this problem appears to be generic and should solve a huge number of rattle problems".[/align]
Folks, I think TSB 06-4-1 (RATTLE/NOISE FROM THE CENTER STACK TSB 06-4-1 (RADIO/HEATER) OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OR GEARSHIFT AREA) covers this problem. I got a copy (.pdf) of the TSB, if you can't find it send me a PM. Don't know how to attach to this post.
My 07 has a creek from the middle dash area over the radio?? I don't know if it will do it after the warm weather gets here or not? My o6 was also a rattle trap, also the tach Always made a pinging noise too!!
My 07 Roush Stage 2 has a noise from the l/s mirror mount, if you push down on it it makes a creaking noise, the same as you push up on it, will let the dealer look at it when I bring it in for a new harness clip they ordered. The electrical tape came off and they went to remove the clip to retape it & it broke. But the miiror mount seems maybe it is not lined up on the mount or not fully tightened.
