SoCal S197's - track day - details posted
At our Calabassas and Saleen Store meets I met with a fellow S197 owner that has invited us to an open track day at Buttonwillow Raceway. His shop and racing schedule keep him too busy to keep up with all of our posts, so he has asked me to take care of the information. He works for a performance driving school and has arranged for a S197 only run group! Here are the basic details:
When - Sunday, March 18th
Cost - $100.00 to drive / free to come hang out and go for ride-a-longs!
For those of you that have been to open track events you know that this is a great deal. Most track events are anywhere from $150-$200.
Where - Buttonwillow Raceway is a 14 turn road course located 130 miles north of Los Angeles. It is near Bakersfield
* this event is limited to S197 hardtops only. convertibles are a safety concern for reasons we don't want demonstrated
* all skill levels of driving are welcome
What is included? -
* a safety inspection of your car - making sure it is mechanically sound, no loose items, etc. **SA2000 or newer helmet required**
*classroom session including racetrack rules, flag recognition, and performance driving techniques
* atleast 2 run sessions at speed
* in car instruction if desired
* printed lap time sheets
* trophies awarded to the drivers with the fastest lap times
p.m. me for direct contact info!! - Matt

So what has to be done to the car to be able to participate? Need a helmet? I never done a track day and would be interested in doing one. Right now, by car is mostly stock, just a CAI, motor mounts and short throw shifter. I haven't done any suspension yet because of funds needing to go somewhere else.

RE: SoCal S197's - track day!
details now posted above - to answer ?'s so far......
phunnyguy - your 4 liter probably has enought scoot to get it done but your brakes are an issue. those little v6 brakes still have to stop a 3400lb car hauling *ss. stock brakes on the GT's are okay, but you'll likely melt yours off
techman - nothing has to be done to the car. the safety inspection is mainly making sure your lugs are tight and you have a good brake pedal and pads that arent down to the metal. make sure there is NOTHING loose in the vehicle. a garage door opener flying off the visor at 130mph is quite a distraction (ask me how i know )
helmets - if you don't have one, I can probably get a group buy put together thru my sponsor

PM sent.
As for the Helmet, can it be one of them half helmets, as long as it is S2000 or newer?
The main reason I asked about the car set up is there was a track day at willow springs and I read the requirements being a loop in the front to tow. It was too expensive though, so I didn't bother getting more info, but for $100, I can handle that. It will be trying not spending money when I get back to beef up the suspension

This sounds like a great time. What time is it all kicking off? But damn Buttonwillow is so damn far. Gonna be a workout for the car to make the trip then race, then come home to take me to work.
Post a timeline if available. Also what kind of deal can you get on helmets? Just looked at mine and it's outdated. Damn it!!!
