How come the 2005 mustang gt ran the 1/4 mile at 13.5 @104mph and the 2006 mustang gt ran 1/4 mile at 13.6 @103mph. The specs onboth are identical, so is it possible the 05 was slightly quicker than the 06 in the 1/4 mile because only 17inch wheels and tires were available for the 2005's and the 2006 they tested had the optional 18inch wheels and tires which are about 5lbs heavier at each corner for a total of 20lbs. I know there are alot reasons and variables why the 05 could have been quicker, just curious if the wheels and tires could have been a contributing factor.

but there is some added weight to the 06 so this might be it as well.

Yup the Tires tested were 18's and I think it had the shaker 1000 and the 05 was the 500, I had to go back to old Mag copies to verify it
but there is some added weight to the 06 so this might be it as well.

I've driven an 06 and an 07, and do notice the steering difference. Can you elaborate on what they did and why? Thanks.

I love the way my '05 handles compared to the '07 I drove the other day. The '07 feels much larger and more boatish in it's handling because, mostly, of the redesigned steering.

RE: 06's and 07's faster?
I have an '07 and am wondering if the changes made have contributed to the thunking/clunking I've had since driving the car off the lot.

No! If that were true all '07s would have the thunking. My 07 GT doesn't have that problem.

The only "thunking" mine makes is the sound of me whipping out my wallet and thunking it down on the center console when I'm at the gas station. (which seems like every other day).......
