Default using 123 gears on auto

Hey guys this may sound like a really random question and one that I actually just cameacross the other
day. I have an 06 Mustang GT -auto and I was sorta bumbed out cause first ..i had hoped fora manual

but the wait was 2 months since it was summer and mustangs were going fast, also at the time I thought
maybe thered be a steptronic transmission like the z350 but to my suprise I realized it only had the 1 2 3
gears. Well the other day I decided to try out the lower gears and realized that the **** on the gear you

usually would press to shift to PRND etc. would sorta lock into place on the 1 2 3 gears as if it was made for sport and regular usage.

Now ...my question is...Did ford somehow devise it to somehow mimic elements of the streptronic suspension so that you can use it on a regular basis if u wanted the feel and jump of a manual gear box, or is it just the regular 1 2 3 gears you would use to climb hills and thats the end of it??????

Thx for the attention on this matter cause its been bugging me for the past few days and there r no online sources that answer the question.

I use mine manually all the time, just make sure that you dont over-rev or downshift and hit the limiter. Its awesome to be able to shift manually when desired and also just pop it in drive when ya dont feel like shifting. And its not anything new that Ford developed... Just about every car with an auto for the past 15 years (or more possibly) has had that 1-2-3.

Thats good to know!! my only concernis that in the case of a manual box, you have the clutch to avoid causing too much tension on the gears ...but with the 123 wouldnt it hurt the gears?....or so iv heard from a very unreliable source

Supposedly its safe on this car but even though its been around for a while its not always been safe to do. had a buddy with a maro that blew out his trans just regular shifting like that all the time.

so would it be safe to say that ...the risk of shifting using the 123's can compare to the risk of possibly blowin the engine on a manual by over-reving repeatedly?

Good info, Would like to hear more...............

I ate an '04 GT's lunch a while back on two rollin runs,
Whenwe stopped at the next light coming into town,I had to beg him to "run one more"
I tried to manual shift 1.2.3., missed a gear, lost the race and had to listen to my wife say,
"You already whipped him twice, why did you try and shift?"
yea yea , I know..........................
