Default Tire question.

I wanna change my tires but I want to keep my wheel. I got a mustang GT with the 17 inches wheels so my pirelli are 235/55-17 like everybody knows.

My question is, can I change these tires for some Nitto 555 that are wider ( 255/50/17 ) ?

and if yes, how wide can I go with the stock rims ?

Thanks

Why would you wanna do that? You'll have sidewalls that taper IN to the rims (bow out), and the car won't steer or respond worth a damn...

what if I change only the rear ? so what should I do ? get new rims ? I've heard of people keeping the factory wheels and changing only the tires..

255/50/17 is the largest tire with the same rolling diameter as the stock tire that will safely fit the stock 17 X 8 wheel. They look and work just fine. They do look better on my aftermarket 17 X 9 wheel, though.

Does the 255/50-R17 tire on a stock 17 wheel pose any rubbing issues on a lowered car? Say an 1.5 - 1.75" drop.

I'm lowered with the stock 17s and have no issues with rubbing.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if the slightly wider tire made any difference on a lowered car.

The 255 should go on without issue, but it will change your speed O just a bit. You are changing the height; the width doesn't change anything. Maybe look for 255/55/17 and your speed O will remain true. you can punch in the numbers on this site and calculate how far it is going to be off. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.aspIt probably will be a very small difference. I have been looking into this same issue, because I would like to put a little more rubber on the ground as well. Good luck.

Thanks. Can it be corrected with a SCT calibrator ?
