Gears??
I looked through the thread on gears and installation, but I could not find anyone with a simular noise like mine. I had 4:10's installed on my 2007 Mustang GT today. Everything is running very good. Only thing I am finding in the way of noise is when I am coming to a stop. Just before completely stopping, I get a slight clunk clunk. It is a very light noise. But I didn't have any noise before the install. Iwas running 3:31's from the beginning. I thought I read somewhere about someone else having a simular noise, but I can not find it. But anyway, they were instructed to use a better, heavier gear oil. After the new gear oil the slight clunk, clunk, comin to a complete stopdisappeared. I just had my gears changed and had the install done by a very high quality shop. They specialize in Mustangs. Their name is AMP. So is this normal? will it get better with more miles?
Like I said it is not whining or whistling or vibrating. Only just before a complete stop it has a slight low clunk clunkwhen Icoming to a complete stop at the light/stop sign, etc. etc.
Does this sound like backlash to anyone?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me,
Casper

Are you sure it's a new noise? From my experience with my car over the last year (it makes this sound, too) and from a doing a search on the board, it sounds like you have a normal noise.
Do you have an gear whine or vibration?
Do a search for "clunk" and you'll get many posts on the subject.

If you're turning at all and hear the noise I agree that maybe you need some friction modifier. I put Royal Purple in mine after the I put in 3.73's & I had some clutch noise. Royal Purple is supposed tohave the friction modifier in it. I added 1/2 (about 2 oz.) Ford racing friction modifier & the noise went away immediately. Add as little as you can as to much can cause one wheel spin. Unscrew the vent on the right top of the axle & pour it in. If you are not turning when you hear it I would check it right away cause something is bad.
Thank you for the help and info. It is agreat thing being able to get answers from those with experience and know how. I did call the installer, and unfortunately due to the fact that they have no tech's in house on Saturday, I was instructed to drive it normally through the weekend and call first thing Monday morning if things persist. They claim they did put in the additive. I DO NOT get any vibration or whinnig or whistling. It is only when I am almost at a complete stop that I slightly hear the clunk clunk. I will research the thread as you suggested to see what others have found and done.
The shop that installed my gears specialize in Mustangs, hence their name, "ALL MUSTANG", and they use only quality Ford parts. I will post on Monday what the tech says after I talk to him.
Thank you for your help,
Casper
