Biggest tire

RE: Biggest tire
Well I'm looking to get some RWL tires, so I am picking a tire first then a rim that it will fit on, sorta opposite of what most people do. I called tirerack and they were very UNhelpful. They said that all RWL tires would be to wide or to tall, they said I could not go over 27 inches total diameter. I told him I did not care if the speedometer was off, but the guy still said 27 inch was the biggest. This did not sound right to me, but what do I know?
I have found a few 16 inch RWL passenger tires, some are like 270 wide, but some are 225 wide. BF makesthe Radial TA in 265/60 R16 (diameter 28.5inches), in theroy thisshould fitright, might look a little big though. Firestone make the "Indy 500" in a 235/70R16 and Goodyear makesthe "NASCAR" tire which is 225/60R16. The good year would be close in size to the OE tires, but not really liking the "NASCAR" letttering or the "INDY 500" letteringeither for that matter.
So I am trying to figure the biggest size I could run, make a list of all possibilities, then figure out which to go with looking at: performance, RWL design, and how the size would look.

RE: Biggest tire
oh your talking about the sidewall limits? Hm....never really thought of that, dont really know why you would do it. I would imagine just try and stay close to stock size all around, tire and rim included. I know witdth we could prolly push a 315 or so...but sidewall i have no idea. Also since you are getting into these weird rim sizes ( 16 in.) make positive they are the correct offset for your car.

RE: Biggest tire
I think that Tirerack is correct in that you've got a total of 27" of room to work with if your car is not lowered. That means you can combine your most-likely 17" wheels with a tire that has 10" total of sidewall. Anybody want to correct me on this? In other words, the "top" and "bottom" sidewalls could both be up to 5" tall, which is pretty bulky. Are you trying to go low profile raised white letter or do you care one way or the other???? I think you should be looking at most at a 50 series for the middle number rather than a 60 or 70 series. Thoughts from the field??

RE: Biggest tire
The profile would most likely be non low profile due to the nature of RWL tires, but really I am open to anything at this point.
Here is a breakdown of the tires I have found so far:
Diameter Width
Stock 27.00" 8.46"
BF TAs 28.51" 10.43"
Firestone Indy28.95" 9.25"
Goodyear Nascar26.62" 8.85"
It looks like the Goodyear Nascars would definatley work, unfortunetly I find them quite ugly. The main point of me getting RWL tires is for the looks and I do not watch or follow Nascar at all, so it would be kinda dumb to have it written on my tires.Hopefully I can find more choices than this, the search is still on.
But on my 27inch diameter stocks it looks like I have a ton of room around the fenders (hence the reason everyone lowers their cars.) If stock 27inch guys can lower their car 1.5 inches (I think there are a few of these around here) why can't I run a 28.5 diameter tire??
Please keep the advice comming I really need it.
