Default Do you put fuel system cleaner in the tank every once in a while?

My car has 3500 miles now, and I'm thinking to put one in. But I've heard bad things about it. So do you put fuel system cleaner in the tank every once in a while?

I think it's been said to avoid such. I'm interested in seeing someone with a little more knowledge about the topic post.

Yeah, I've heard that too. But the thing is, the fuel we put in already have such additives there, so what I don't understand is, why it is bad to add more every 3k miles?

From what I understand, it's a good idea to use an additive with Chevron Techron occassionally to keep the intakeclean of deposits caused by the EGR and combustion blowback, especially if you don't vary the gasoline diet very much from the Wawa or Royal Farm Store.

I use Techtron just prior to every oil change. No problems in the 17 yrs I've been doing it.

As long as you use a Top Tier Fuel you should not need this stuf. If however you want to use it then use the Techron. Also fuel additives cannot keep the intake clean since the gas never touches the intake expect for just before the intake valves.

if I were to use one I'd try http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...46584_-1_10317the race one
the small amount ofnitromethane might counter the octane increase but should burn hotter and clean carbon off

That stuff is junk and it does not increase your octane rating enough to matter. Not to mention it has been proven that Ocatne booster such as that are not good in these cars and have casued many a headaches. When it say it increases the Octane by 3 points it means it makes 91 Octane 91.3

If you want a REAL Octane Booster use this.

I run Chevron fuel system cleaner every other oil change. My wifes focus is coming up on 70k and I have had no problems. We use the same cleaner for a SSM put out by Ford. This is mainly for fuel gauge concerns with sulfur build up and our engineer said running it won't harm anything as long as used by the proper instructions on the bottle.
