Default Question For Those With A Standard Shift

Well this is my first standard shift car. While I can get around decently with it, I am still very jerky with the shifting and pulling out. How long did it take you guys that also just learned how to drive a stick to become smooth with the shifts and pullouts?

This is my first one, and it took me like...a couple days to learn. And to get smooth like a week.

By the end of the month, it was like breathing. You just do it and don't even think about it.

It's not that hard to learn actually, as long as you know the concept. The mustang is a lot more forgiving then some of the older manual cars. First car I drove was some Toyota Pick up. When you stalled... the thing jerked like a bronco... The mustang just shuts off.

Yeah, I've done that a few times already. I just wanna smooth out my shifts so I don't give my passengers a sore neck from just riding with me.

Practice, practice, practice

I was up and running in 30minutes just got better from there. On the otherside I know people who have been driving stick all their life and they still suck.

Wait until you throw 4:10's in there, that is when the jerking really begins in bumper to bumper traffic

oh ya, take your self to an open parking lot that has no cars and do starts and stops and see where you sweet spot is and practice. The most scary to me and toughest to learn was hills and starts on slops but my hint to you is put on your ebrake and then when it turns green you can let go of the brake you wont roll and then give it gas and when you start moving turn the ebrake off. hope this helps

Get yourself on some flat level ground. Now try to get the car to move with out giving it any gas. You will have a hard time at first but after several tries you will learn to get the car to take off with giving it gas. It will make taking off on hills easier.
