I know that I'm not the only one with the loose clanking sound coming from the rear..

I'm told it is called backlash and is normal. My 2002 GT did it as well....

Is there a fix, anyone have any luck ripping Ford a new one about it?

Cannot stand that noise!

 

Mine only does that when Im sloppy with my shifting.

 

Mine does it quite a bit unless I really shift/clutch just right. My 2001 GT was mch smoother and forgiving. I went to the Ford dealer with it. They had one of their service guys (who also had a 2005 GT) drive it around. He said it clunked LESS than his did. They were not too interested in investigating any further. Now that I have the supercharger on it, it is all on me anyhow...

 

The fix = 1pc Driveshaft.

 

1 pc carbon fiber driveshaft from BMR, and no backlash at all. I'm also blown. [8D]

 

Yes, a 1 piece takes care of a lot of it. I still feel the slack in the drivetrain, but it's very rare now.

Without some slack, things would break i'm told.
