Clutch ?
I'm getting ready to put my KB S/C on next weekend but I think something might be going on with my clutch. It only has 22k on it but I do tend to drive it hard. I will preface this by saying I don't know anything about clutches so please don't laugh. The reason I think something might be wrong is the clutch doesn't release until the very top where before it was releasing slowly throughout the whole clutch range. Does it just need to be adjusted or is it going out. I realize that I need to replace it soon anyway which I'm planning on doing but after spending $6000.00 on a S/C I need to wait a little while before I can afford it. Also what clutch do you guys recommend when I do replace it and what can I expect to pay with installation. Thanks in advance.
Hi, A basic clutch job at Ford dealership a few years back was around $400. That was clutch disc, pressure plate & throw out bearing + labor & tax. It sounds like you wore yours out but maybe you have adjustment left as long as it's not slipping. A good idea is to have your flywheel ground if you do have it done. Mine wasn't and started to chatter not long after. Since your doing the S/C it might be better to address the clutch first. Plus you'll want a better than stock clutch too. You should ask the other S/C people on here what brand they use with a S/C. If you don't do the clutch first you'll probably roast the stock one the first week.
I'm O.K. with it going out once I put the S/C on, I'm even expecting it. I just hoping to get by as long as I can before I need to replace it as I'm broke from buying the S/C. I probably should've done it first but I didn't and I already have the S/C. I searched the forum and most people feel the Spec 3 is the way to go which is about $350.00 plus install. Any idea's what a normal install would cost? I do have a friend that's helping me put the S/C on but I don't feel right asking him for help with the clutch also it just seems like to much. Are clutches hard to install? Is it something that he could walk me through or should I just pay for it to be done? I'm not an idiot, I can do basic engine work like alternators, starters, brakes, etc. but I've never attempted a clutch. Any other suggestions would be helpful. Also if anyone has any idea if my clutch is going out I would appreciate it, or is there some way to adjust it. It's not slipping or making any noises it just releases at the top which seems weird to me. Thanks Again.

I only 8500 miles on my car and I don't drive it hard. I installed the 2.6L KB s/c last fall and now my clutch is going out. I'd heed the advice of CrazyAl if I were you.
