3.31 gears good choice for street only SC'd daily driver?
Let me preface by saying I don't actually own a stang yet but I'm planning on buying an '07 convertable and installing a whipple HO SC on day one. I've read that many people pushing the ~475 RWHP that the whipple puts out have serious problems keeping the tires from spinning in 1st and 2nd gear. This car is going to be a daily driver for me, but due to being a vert will likely never see any drag strip passes (or maybe just one before they kick me off). I plan to thoroughly enjoy every single stop light however
All that being said, would the stock 3.31 gears be a good choice over even the 3.55's? I would think the whipple would have more than enough HP and torque to overcome the taller-gear which would itself provide a little protection against wheel-spin and make 1st and 2nd gear actually usable in stoplight to stoplight drags. Basically I want to try and avoid generating large amounts of white smoke every time I gun it off a light. Or would the 3.55's and a small amount of skill w/ throttle application and clutch engagement enable spin-free takeoffs and better acceleration?

I'd go ahead and spring for the 3.55s when you purchase. It's a $100 option when you buy, but it's going to cost you about $600+ to get them installed later (and you're going to want to get gears installed later). Although, if you think you might ever want to step up even higher to like 3.73s, it might not be worth the extra $100 up front. My guess is though that you'd be happy enough with the 3.55s to keep 'em.
You should look more at suspension upgrades to help your traction versus gear "downgrades" to slow down your power. Just my 2 cents.

I think you get instant boost from a Whipple, so 3.55 or 3.73 may be the right choice. Going to 4.10 for example suits a centrifugal better (like Procharger)to get to the high rpm range a little quicker.
My saleen supercharged car has 3.31...if I had 3.73 I would be opening a monthly contribution to the tire network...IMO, I could not even imagine it...I almost went with 3.73 but recently changed my mind since supercharging...To me its a preference...
