No need to "shut up". I'm interested in knowing the real numbers. I don't thing I've ever seen an 87 tune compared to a 93 tune on the dyno. I have heard a lot of what people "think" they feel. Somebody out there can back it up with numbers I'm sure. My CAI and SCT is tobe delivered TODAY!!

I heard somewhere that using a higher octane gas than is recommended in the owners manual (or tune) actually retards the timing and in the long run will eventually foul the plugs.

If this is true then you simply just cant put in 93 octane in your car without getting a tune that supports that gas.

I dont think I have seen any numbers on a dyno but hell the dyno can very a couple 5 HP on any given run anyway and that is about what the difference should amount to anyway. Numbers are going to prove that the higher oct will lead to better numbers. But I know the tuners can use more aggresive settings with the higher oct and thus it will result in higher HP gains. Like I said with a basic CAI and Tune combo you will probably see 5 HP difference maybe but you can run a car on a dyno once and get 290 and then run it 10 minutes later and get different numbers.

As I understand it, octane does not "help" fuel to burn, it "prevents" it from burning as easily. If the fuel burns too easily (i.e., 87 octane) and you don't run enough "timing," then you get the "knocking" from the fuel burning too quickly before the valves close, thereby losing efficiency and power. With a higher octane fuel (i.e., 91 or 93 octane), you can run more timing in your engine, which generates more power. This is why a tune is critical. It changes the timing, fuel curves, etc. to get the most benefit from the higher octane.

That is true.

If your hurting for some dough, run the 87, and if u have the dough, run the 91+. i dont always run my 91 tune. I run the 89, so then if i know Im going to race I add 6 gallons of 91 and Im ok.
