I feel embarrassed, raced a pesky Sixer.
Okay, okay, before all the Sixer contingency goes up in arms, let me explain. As I was on my way to the store a few hours ago, I notice a S197 V-6 coming up fast behind me. As the driver moved in the right hand lane to draw next to me, the traffic light turns red. Can't see the driver through the very dark tint(the car is a black non-pony package V-6) andthe driver isjust revving and revving, so I say, "what the heck" let's see how ugly it's gonna get. Light turns green, Iinstantly get about 2 cars and I noticed the V-6 is a stick car(the nose dived and roseon the 1-2 shift) and by the next light(I had more than a10car lead), the driver lowers the window(it's a cute latina) and says to me, "I wanted to see how much faster your car was than mine". Too bad she looked like a high-schooler.....she was very cute!
Don't mean to rag on the V-6, was just an encounter that was bound to happen. I guess this was my reason for going V-8 in the first place, I guess if a GT500 was around, I'd be curious to see how much faster too. Although(correct me if I'm wrong), a well driven GT would be closer to a GT500 than a well driven V-6 to a GT, why do you guys think?

Careful with those sixers; looks can be deceiving.
Especially of you see 2 tailpipes.
My brother had a V6 that he put ~$2k into and ate stock GTs for lunch in light-to-light dashes.
Then he traded it in for a GT and put a heckuva lot more into that.

The GT500 has 200hp on you. You'd lose big time.

The 4.0 is no slouch. With just mild bolt on's they are over 200hp at the rears; our 300hp is at the crank. My first S197 was a 4.0. Yes, I traded it in on a GT, but that was because in my area you could not find a GT with a 5 speed when they first came out. Did I settle when I bought the 4.0? Yes, and no; I really enjoyed the car. My main hang up with the 4.0 was it did not have the Mustang sound like the V8. As far as a GT vs. a GT 500, it would not even be close. The difference between a stock 4.0 and GT is less than 100hp and only 80flbs of torque. The Shelby has advantage of 175+ hp and 175+flbs of torque on the GT. So, the 4.0 vs the GT would be a closer race than the GT 500 vs. GT.

Hmmmmmm a well driven GT500 stock, about 12.2-12.3, well driven GT 13.3-13.4, well driven 4.0 14.7-14.8(quoting figures from MM&FF). Gotta remember just because a car a 200 more hp, doesn't mean it can transfer it all to the ground, plus the GT is only about 150-200lb heavier than a sixer, but 300-400 lb lighter than the GT500(coupe weights, that is)

His Sixer could run mid-high 13's? I have gone 13.7's in my stock GT (at the track) and I'm sure I could go faster with a lot more practice.

I actually played with a GT500 one day. It wasn't from a dig, but I let him get in front of me and he hit it and I did too. I was in 3rd doing about 50 when we hit it.He pulled about a car in a half and stayed it stayed that way til we had to let off. I thought he would of definetely pulled more. He could of just been playing with me, but I'm not sure.
