What is the MAX safe limit of HP you can get out of the stock V8 4.6 engine at the wheels????

I hear 450 but is that at the crank or wheels??

400-450 rwhp is max. You will see higher but there on borrowed time. THe tune is everything!! I prefer to be extra safe! Others push it more than I do!

400rwhp - 450rwhp its all in the tune.

 

i seen a lot more power then 400-450 hold up just fine

 

450 @ the wheels seems to be the concensous of what is safe

+1 I have heard of cars going at 400 rwhp. Thats about the point where you need a new fuel pump.
Also those guys putting out allot more than 450 rwhp, or either full of crap, the guy who dyno there car is full of crap or there on borrowed time. Most of the guys putting out the 450 rwhp+ will tell you that there playing with fire. A good tuner can get it to that but he will tell you that it will pop at anytime.

 

The forum is not a real good place to find out that information. Some will tell you this hp and some that hp. Go to Ford or a good shop to get a reasonable answer. I will tell you that I am having a KB 2.6 put on my GT as I post this and my mechanic who has been in the business all his life will not let me go with anything higher than an 8 psi pulley, anything higher than that then the bottom end has to be done. He has run 10 psi on his GT for Mustangs and Fast Fords shootout with over 500 to the wheels and has said he really pushed it and has since toned it down.

 

^^^^ My info is based off of being in the shop and knowing this info! Unlike others on here I did not read it, this is my personel experience.

Again, the TUNE is everything. Every car is built a little different, but all in all if you want to push it and get 500rwhp go right ahead, if money is not an issue then it wont matter if it breaks. To be safe keep it in the 400-450 rwhp range! FACT!
