Default Stock valve covers chromable???

So I might be getting a job at my wife's company...which would mean I can actually have down time for the car...So I was wondering, are the stock valve covers chromeable???? I thought I remember reading that they are magnesium, and I was wondering if they could just be chromed? It would be cheaper than buying new chrome ones and I'm not sure if I want them powdercoated...but I guess that is another inexpensive option...

Anyone know what powdercoating/chroming the valve covers would cost??? I was guessing $100-$150????

Hi. You probobly are not interested in doing what I am doing on mine but here are a couple pics.

I have just barley started, but I used some Mothers "Billet" wheel polish and an old rag just to see if anything could be done and got this result after less than 20 minutes of hard rubbing. All was doneby hand, andI just bought a small Power Ball to use on my drill to see if it works.

I did not take the cover off of course, and so you will just be able to get to the parts that show and not get all the cam cover polished. But its a LOT cheaper than chrome and looks a lot better IMO than stock.

They are aluminum and yes they can be chromed! You can get them on ebay for 399 but I think that is to much. Just powdercoat them for much cheaper in any color you want!

Not hard to take off but time consuming as all the wiring has to be moved to get access to the covers and their bolts!

Well done! its a lot of work, but the results are worth it to me. It costs very little, and seems to last real well. I had thought that the shine would dull over time but it has'nt so far.

Hi Guys,
I have a set ofcam covers from my pull off (had mine painted body color). They are just stock, but you can get them coated and then put them later (saves down time. pm me. I'd go $75 for the set.
Thanx, ErnieP
