what I did, I passed on the Shaker 1000 and spent the $1200 on 2 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 Subs and got a Autotek Mean Machine Amplifier. That out does the Shaker1000 BIG TIME!!!
That'll out thump the shaker 1000 but howis the all-around sound? I've heard stock systems before with big subs added and when the bass wasn't turned up all the way it sounded bleh. With the bass up, it had no sound...just bump.

For $1200, the shaker 1000 is a damned good sound system.
You are the exact customer they are looking for, and exactly why the offer the system. And I don't mean that in a bad way.

Uh.. you do realize that the skipper1000 system has 4 amps, right?

I have a 07 gt with the shaker 1000 unit but i want to add another sub enclosure to the other side of the trunk. has anyone played with this idea? i haven't ever messed with subs or amps before and could use some pointers as far as hooking it up and wiring it correctly.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with it. Either be happy with what you have or rip it out and replace it with something worth spending money on. The subs are crappy at best, but at least they are tuned for the box they are in and the power going to them. If you try to piggy back another set on them you are going to do more harm than good. They are dual voice coil speakers that run at 2ohms per voice coil. You will probably end up frying the crappy amps they have running them by hooking them up to the existing system. If you added another amp, you wouldneed a "quality" 2 channel amp that you could hook the subs up to.You would wire them each in aparallel configurationacross both voice coils, the ampwould have to be able to handle(what would now be) the 4ohm load, and it would need to be a 4 channel amp. You could also wire each sub in series with itself ( remember, each one has two voice coils ) and that again would end up being a 4ohm load per channel on the amp. Or, get a 4 channel amp that will run all four channels at 2ohms and wire one channel to each voice coil. Again though, this is not going to be accomplished ( with any quality ) with a cheap amp.

Or... get a Scosche box and a good sub and a descent mono amp and rip that POS skipper sub box and amps out and replace it

I have 1 12 JL audio sub with JL 500 amp and that is probably alot louder than the 1000 subs. Total cost for box from crutchfield, sub and amp under 800.

anytime you have subs, its for the "thump". To me, the shaker1000 dosen't put out the bass that I like(and I believe it has 4 subs). The quality of my system sounds real great. I'm not sure how others do their system. On mine, if the subs are off, then it sounds just like it sounded before I added the subs. When the subs are on, it has the bass and sound. If you know someone who has sound quality problems, sometimes you might need a mid and highs amp. That helps a lot.

That's pretty good deal. What is the total watts on the sub and RMS?

The 12W6v2 is rated at 400 RMS and it can handle almost all of the power from the amp.

After I changed my head unit to the Pioneer Avic-D2...the Shaker1000 is perfect for me. I recommend give the stock h/u the boot (IMO).
