My engine light came on prior to any mods but the car was running fine, I tried the gas cap solution as per the owners manual which didn't help, so I disconnected the battery for ~30 seconds, the engine light went back to normal operation.

1. Go to an autozone and have it scanned for free.
2. Toss the non-tuned intake and go back to stock.
3. Running 93 octane in a car that is tuned for 87 is wasting money. 93 octane is not going to "balance out" the extra air coming in.. only tune will do that.

I searched the forums and found some interseting info concerning my check engine light. I plugged in my scanner and found no codes. I tried to erase any codes as well and the light remains on. About two months ago I added a BBK CAI. I did not get the tuner. The BBK instructions claim that there is a possibility that a code could kick up. They recommend you use higher octane fuel to remedy the code. I filled up with 93 and so far nothing. I read in one of the posts that I searched that the S197 has an advanced PCu that doesn't respond to older OB II scanners. Is this the case? The Owners manual states to check the gas cap. I have and still no loss of the engine light. Car is running superb. Short of taking it to the dealer is there anything anyone can recommend? Thanks.
Silly but basic question. Is yoru scanner compatible with your car? I have a scanner that can read up to 2005 cars. My wife's Escape is 06. It will plug in but gets an error when reading a few of the sensor status'. It's possible your scanner recognizes the car but not the standard that it's being given. Like Lees07GT pointed out, you may need to upgrade the scanner software or buy a new one.
Not silly question at all. I had no idea there was a pending scanner change. Never heard of CAN. And yes, my scanner is not CAN ready. Nor does it have the ability to update. So I'm guessing I have three options. Buy a new scanner and pay the $149 to find out that its running lean due to the BBK CAI. Two, buy a tune and pay another $350 with the possibility of having even more codes jump up. Three, remove the CAI ,sell it, and go back to stock. I only went with the CAI because it dresses up the engine compartment. BBK stated that no tune was needed. (However, you may toss codes. Their remedy is to raise octane). What I don't get is how the thing ran fine without any codes for three months. Then all of a sudden theres to much air. I'm leaning to the care free days of "stock".

Prior to buying my SCT tuner, I had gone to Autozone and Advance Auto. Neither of them could read my codes with their old boxes (said something like "read error").

Just undo your battery cable for 30 seconds and reconnect. Then see ifthe lightcomes on again. I've had mine come on a couple of times for lean fuel mixture. Found out it was when the TCS was on and I was gettin on it pretty hard, The fuel pump shut down when the tires were spinning. That caused the trouble code. Now I make sure to never get on it with the TCS on. Have not had any problems since.

The only way the dealer will throw a fit abou the CAI is if it's still installed when you bring it in. If you want to see if it's the CAI causing it, go back to stock intake, pull the battery wire for a minute then go for a drive. During the time that it didn't give a light, did you ever punch the gas? Sometimes you won't get a lean condition until you go WOT.

Well I switched back to the stock CAI. I disconnected the positive side of the battery for about 30 seconds. I connected it all back up and started the car. Engine light is still displayed. To my amazment, the stereo presets all remained set, and I didn't notice the computer trying to reset the timing. Have they finally made it to where the PC holds a charge long enough for a battery swap? I'm dealer bound this afternoon. BTW...no more mods. I'll only change wheels from here on out.
BTW..The deal with Auto Zone is correct. Not only don't they sell a CAN ready scanner, their store use scanner is not CAN ready as well. It can't detect the code either.

Also....I never "hammer" the car. I may take off at a traffic light, but I ease her back once she gets to about 70. And I never waste tire tread. So we'll see what the EOL is all about this afternoon.

Drove the car to work this morning at around 4:00 am. Engine light was on the entire way (23 miles). Got in the car with the intention of heading for the dealership this afternoon (2:00 pm) and the engine light was gone! So the PC just doesn't like the CAI or the light burned out lol! Either way..it's gone. So I have a nice BBK CAI sitting in a box in my garage. The warranty will have to expire before I install it again. That will be 25 months from now. In the mean time I am officially through with mods. She's fine just the way she is! Thanks to everyone who contributed during this recent modification escapade.

For everyone's info. I bought a CAN ready scanner from Advance Auto Parts (PartsAmerica) for around $140 a year ago.

It's now priced at $177 here: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...egoryCode=3389

Shouldn't you always disconnect the negative battery cable?

Sell one of those 4x4's in your sig and buy a tuner/cai from brenspeed.com, put the rest of the money in the bank.
