That gives me an idea though.. what would is sound like of you just put two good resonators right before the axle (the only place they fit) and just had pipes with chrome tips coming out the back.. would it sound more like the older Mustangs?

Well, don't mistake the loudmouths as simply 'raspy'. They rumble loud at idle and other times, its just when you get on it it sounds like a mean nascar or something...

Resonators really just get rid of some of the higher frequency, im not sure that would make a difference on the raspy/popping sound, but I'm no expert, just commenting.

The only thing I don't like about trying to get a rumbling muscle car is a lot of times you end up with a ton of drone...

I think the o/r h and stock mufflers sounds pretty deep, loud and mean. I had the GTA's and they only sounded great at certain rpm ranges and really bad in others. Luckily the axle backs are extremely easy to change out......so if you get an o/r h then definitely take the time to listen to the stock mufflers before you change them out for something else.

You might just be suprised by the sound.......I was.

Try the Bassani SS Race axle backs. Without an o/r h they sound mean can only imagine with the o/R H. Will be a reality whenever i get mine from brenspeed (backorder)
