re-badging a shellby
ORIGINAL: rmays06
Wow, I don't know why you would ask that question here, nothing but trouble is coming.....
Its a shelby but not a cobra.....I really don't know if its acceptable but its the closest thing to it IMO.
I really don't know or understand how rebadging down is ok, because the big arguement I hear is you are misrepersenting and some might think that they beat the wrong car or be mislead, Isn't this the same thing? If you beat a car with PONY emblems on your GT isn't that the same? So if a dealer builds a car and misbadges is that ok?
A car that SHELBY put for ford has generally been accepted as a cobra so I don't see why they would in this case unless next year he brings out the GT350 and its practally the same as the ShelbyGT.

but i wouldnt put cobra's on the shelby GT. I dont know if I would do ANYTHING to a shelby. they are the way they are because Carroll thought it should be that way. some day the cars may be worth alot of money if left in factory form (more true of the GT500 but still). if anyone wants to change up a shelby GT i would think it better to just buy a regular GT and visually modify it to suit ur tastes.
Eh, you gotta remember that huge majority of people on the streets do not know the difference between plain Shelby and GT500... At the very most they'll know the Shelbys exist in the first place instead of wonder why this mustang has the word "Shelby" on it..
In my opinion... If someone with a Shelby GT puts a cobra on it, I won't mind, because I'll be just as jealous as before...
At least its a Shelby, and not just a GT. I vote do it.
You're talking about an INSANELY small percentage of people that would ever know the difference.

arent the GT500 modified cobras? the shelby H cars never had a cobra on them
EDIT: not sure about above statement, but I did a little research.
the GT500 has historically come with an offset crobra emblem like the ones today HOWEVER, the GT350 came with an offset pony badge. so cobra badge = gt500, not all shelbys

I know there has been a million thread on re-badging mustangs. But, here is a new angle.
If one buys a Shelby GT (not the 500) and removes the square badge and installs the cobra usually associated with Shelbys, is that rice or otherwise deplorable?
I dont have a shelby, I was just thing that if I did, I would definately put the cobra on. BTW, I know the "its your car, do as you want" opinion is usually correct, im just wondering what is the consenus of the mustang faithful.

Personally,
I would not.
Only because , if i did put a cobra on the fender instead of the Powered by ford emblem, I would feel that the car i have was notthe car i wantedand i was trying to put it in a catagory of a type of car that i maybe i wish i had? The Cobra emblem projects a more stronger image. Certain cars that have that snake emblem, deserve it. Especialy if thats what the car is. I own a Shelby Gt and love every bit of it. But, i would never put a cobra on it because a Cobra, it is not. Even if it had 500 horse, it's not a Cobra, Its a Shelby Gt.
I see your point of view and by all means put one on if you want, if it makes you feel better, do it. But in my opinion, the only cars that should have one on thierfender arereal Cobra's.
Just my humble opinion.
