Engine Ping

Engine Ping
Has anyone noticed any engine ping since the weather has gotten warmer? I noticed some ping when going up hills and on the freeway when going from 60 to 70.Thought I might of gotten a bad tank so I ran it down to 30 miles left and went to a different station and am still getting some pinging. Thanks Mikey

Gas Is Not Gas. 87 octane is just a number and the sign is just a sign. Nether mean you are getting full 87 octane, That’s pretty much the minimum for a GT , so if the gas is fudging just a little (86 octane) you will hear a ping. Putsome 91 or 93 in it to see if the ping goes away. If it does, Find a better quality 87. The Alcohol in the gas may also be affecting the ping. EXXON- Moble.

Noticing the same thing with an '07 GT. First 2 weeks or so it sounded fine, now under fairly hard acceleration, but starting at lowish RPMs (ie, suddenly stepping hard on the gas around 2500 rpm) I hear some pinging in 2nd and 3rd gear until the revs hit around 4000. It's not horrible, but it does ruin the nice exhaust note to hear what sounds like an old ford escort under the hood.
For me the pinging is most noticeable at LOW RPM's, which makes low RPM cruising and then quick leaps forward from 2,000 or 3000 rpm somewhat embarrassing because of the clickity clicks going on.
I started hearing it about 4 or 5 days ago. It doesn't happen all the time though which makes me wonder is it something I'm doing or is it the gas, the engine is already wearing out, or what.
Heat? Outside Temps have are about the same as when I bought 3 weeks ago.
Using 87, except put in 89 on the last tank.

It sounds liek a lot of you new mustang owners need to figure out the proper way to drive a stick. Lugging an engine is WORSE than if you rev it to 6k EVERY time you shift. It can and WILL bend connecting rods.
Lugging - read no.2 above.

RE: Engine Ping
Well you have to remember when its warmer outside 2 things happen, your fuel is at a much higher temp and so is the intake charge (air). So the air/fuel mixture that is going into the cylinders is a lot hotter, therefore it is more prone to pre-ignition. You should run a higher octane (higher octane means harder to ignite) which is less prone to pre-ignition. That and youll notice youll get better gas mileage as well.
