RE: GEARS INSTALLED - CAR IS A MESS
JGT, I'm sorry but it's difinitely an installation problem.Mellowyellow, try Muscle Motors Performance in Canoga Park. www.musclemotors.com Look for Eddie Rios. I have good experience with this guy. He installed FRPP gears for me 8000 miles ago and still runs smooth. They have dyno service too.

Sorry to hear about it. I would definitely take it back to them so they can fix it. I know my gears in my 95 GT took a dump but if you looked at the ring and pinion, all you could see was a bad wear pattern, nothing looked damaged, but that's how it goes.

Im going to put 4.10 on soon but this is the exactsh!t Im afraidof. My only piece of mind is my friend had his done by a reputable guy here in L.A. and they are working fine. He wants 600 parts and labor FRPP. Does them in 2 hours flat.

Can you say don't forget gear oil. It could be different possibilities. They may have way over torqued the pinion nut...only needs about 20 in-lbs. after the proper crush of the crush sleeve. To thick of one or both side shims.....way to much pre-load on the carrier bearings. Take it back ASAP.....via flat bed truck!

Ouch! sorry to hear this. You and a whole lot of others including myself have had bad experiences with gear upgrades. I would call the shop and make them pay for the tow. And make them fix it!

RE: GEARS INSTALLED - CAR IS A MESS
Well, I had the car towed to the shop last night. They looked at it today and said it was a bearing. They couldn't explain why it had happened. They said the gears were fine and that this couldn't be attributed to the install, but fixed it without charging labor nonetheless.
So, I took my car and was on my way. At first, everything sounded great. That awful gear whine is completely gone. But now I have noticed that I still have that whooshing, white noise kind of a sound, like water rushing through a pipe. I know that isn't what it is, but that is the best explanation I have had so far for the sound. It gets louder as you move faster and can best be heard with the windows up, since it is a somewhat faint sound.
Anyone have any idea what this sound is? Is this another kind of gear whine? Do I trust them that the install is fine and just take it into a shop (I am sure dealership won't fix this under warranty since I changed my gears)? Think the car is unsafe to drive? I hear about people driving around with gear whine and having no concerns of suddenly spinning out of control on the highway. What is the worst that could happen?
Any help is appreciated.
Also, does anyone have a technical description or schematic of the Mustang rear end? I would like to better understand this part of the car.

Make sure you break the new gears in properly. I've done many installs on 4x4's and that is the most common step overlooked. If the sound if faint I'd be it might go away after the break-in period. If it's not loud your not likely going to hurt anything in the first few miles, etc.
Or just go pick up one of the guys at the shop where you had it done and ask them to take a listen...

If they were quet at first there's a good chance they were setup correctly. It almost sounds like it was low on oil. That's the only thing I could think of that would cause it to go from good to no good like that. Don't drive it. Check the oil level. I'll bet it's low. There is certain to be damage by now anyway but I'd check the oil and if it's low you know what happened. Either your installer didn't fill it or there's a leak at the pinion seal or the rear cover.
Sorry to hear of this problem. Hopefully the installer will make good on it. If it's his fault as opposed to defective parts he really should provide you with a new ring and pinion and setup for no cost.
