Buy now or wait? 2007 vs 2008
I read here that they start production of 2008's next month. I am readyto special order a GT. There are some good incentives now, but they might expire by the time my special order arrives (dealer said 6 weeks). My friend was toldFord is going to have big discounts on the Mustangs this summer. I suspect that will be close-out 2007's and not the 2008's, and I am pretty sure I won't be able to find the car I wantin dealer inventory (black on black auto convertible w/ navi, heated seats and charcoal dash). If I hold off it will probably end up being a special order 2008. Do you guys think they will have a sale on 2008's this summer? Just not sure if I should wait or not. Plus, residual value of a 2008could be quite a bit higher when I go to sell it later on.What do you think?

I would order exactly what I wanted (which I did last year in Aug). I didn't want to pay for options that I had no use for, or did not like. I went in prepared with printouts of invoice price, and told them I wanted to negotiate from there up, not MSRP down.We agreed to $300 over invoicewith littlehassle. Mustang sales have been dropping off fast since 06, so I would not expect them to be too stubburn at this point?

Dunno what your situation is - I may have had an advantge being in a large city with many competing Ford stealerships? Also, (not sure if this is the case everywhere) but the Ford dealers in Dallas,Texas get some cash from FoMoCo to cover intial costs of keeping the new vehicles on thier lot. So, if they sell it before that money would have run out, they consider it profit (well thats what a little birdie told me anyway). I think the fact thatI would be driving the car of the lot within a few days made getting close to invoice easier? < That is just an assumption however. One caveat is that they will have a deposit check, and KNOW you really want that car and may try taking advantage of that -i.e., low balling your trade in etc.
Dont forget the 05-06 GTcame with 3.55 gears, which is now a $100 option. If you do not plan to upgrade them yourself, it's worth it - well unless you want to be slow, and get 2 more miles per gallon?

If you can find what you want on a lot now, they'll probably be very itchy to give it to you for a great deal. Last week I bought the exact car I wanted except it had a Shaker 1000 in it that I didn't really want to pay 1250 for. I ended up paying invoice minus the 1250 for the Shaker after a half hour of back and forth. So if they have what you want right now, they probably really want to get rid of it so you might get a great deal. If, however, you can't find anything even close to your fantasy options it's probably better to wait and get exactly what you want.

I got my car in August of 2006 about an hour after they backed it off the trailer. It was a 2007 model, black, black leather, Shaker 500, IUP, 18" Chrome Bullit rims, standard 3.31s. I got it for a little under X-plan, and I got $1,000 cash back from Ford, because they didn't have the rebate code in their system yet to apply it to the deal up front. I got it for less than my buddy got his left over 06 for that he bought a week earlier. It's kind of cool to get exactly what you want, especially if you order it. Then it feels like it's "YOUR" car. I just happend to show up and saw it, and fell in love with it. I would have ordered 3.55s, but I didn't know in 07 they made them an option. In all reality it wasn't a big deal; there's virtually 0 difference in performance between the two.
Actually the dealer where I got it from, I was there today. They still have new 2006 Roush and Saleen Mustangs on hand.
