Default 5.4L Swap

Has anyone heard of swapping a 5.4L block into a '05+ GT from say an F150? If so, what type of gains and advantage will that give beside the obvious .8L of displacement? Will the factory top end bolt right to the 5.4 bottom? I wonder if the mounting would just require a new hood?

Any ideas????

Huge waste of money.

You can turn the 4.6L into a beast with the same amount of money, but have a whole lot less work to do and things to mess with.

Hey if you have the money to do the swap- the motor does have its advantages. I think with new motor mounts the car will clear the stock hood...(don't quote me on this) and if you are looking to S/C with big boost than it is worth it as the block is cast iron and the rods and pistons are better. I am referencing this from a GT500 which is the same motor they use in the F-150. JMO J

220lbs more.....if you are talking about the iron block. Ford racing sells the aluminum 5.4 for $2500 (block only).

It's a similar engine, but not the same.

3V 5.4L for the F-150 trucks
4V 5.4l For the GT500

I thought the aluminum 5.4 was a dry sump oiling system, ala GT??

It is, but right in the catalog it says it can be machined for wet sump.

110lbs for the block only. Add heads from the Ford GT which are $1500 ea (less cams).and you've got $5500 invested so far. Not cheap......but definitely a lot lighter than the iron block 5.4 from the GT500.

I think that the swap would make sense for just pure raw Horsepower. That would work very well for drag racing. I'm not sure how much more the 5.4 Litre motor weighs but I would be willing to guess it would be close to 200 lbs more than the 4.6. That would definately cause an adverse effect to the way the car handled on a road course. If you could get a good deal on one, it would be worth trying, I'm sure there is someone out there that will eventually do it. Ford Racing also sells a "big bore" version of the 4.6 block. It has a 94 mm bore instead of the stock 90.2 mm. Combined with a stroker 4.6 crank I believe it's displacement would about 5.2 Litres.
