Funny...This wasn't a problem for me on my '07, until I went to fill it up at an Exxon station yesterday. It took 11 gallons when I was on empty; I started up the car, the needle showed it was full, and I started to drive away. I get half a mi. down the road, and I start seeing the needle moving sharply off of the F to 3/4 tank.

I didn't start having this problem until after I took the car into the dealership for its first oil change...I wonder if they had any TSBs that they "fixed" and didn't tell me about?

I have the problem every once in awhile. But the weirdest thing happend the other day. I already had a quarter tank when I went to fill up. After $15 at $3.33/gallon, the pump stopped. I tried the upside down routine like usual which always works. This time, it didn't. I don't know if it was another issue with the car, if it was once in a great moon this time or if it was the pump station. But I always use that station so who knows lol.

Thats amazing, You can't pump your own gas?

The gas shut off thing is caused by tank pressure, or back pressure from the fuel going in, It's designed like that so you don't overfill and have a problem from expantion in hot weather. Live with a tank that is 85% full or have problem in hot weather. If you fill it past the shut off and not on a trip, your asking for problems.

Hehe...Yeah, it's actually kind of a crazy thing in Oregon...You can't pump your own gas. State law prohibits it. I remember when I went to go visit my grandmother about 10 years ago, and I was trying to help herout, so I get out of the car to pump the gas and the attendant's yelling at me,and my grandmother's yelling at me...

Back on topic...I think next time I go to fill up at thepump, I'm going to pull that littlerubber sleeve back a bit and try to angle it so that it isn't making a completelyairtight seal...

My dad who works in parts at a Ford dealership asked when I called him about it last week. The "fix" is a newer gas tank. But if your car was built after a certain date, you already have that gas tank. One main reason is the small diameter fuel inlet tube. I've only had it happen to me twice. Whats funny is the last time was at the gas station I go to all the time. The other was in another part of the state.

I dont have this problem but a TSB to replace the gas tank is out there and do what is suggested below and it should take care of the problem.

I use to fill with the handle at the 2-3 o'clock position to get it to work. Tried something different the other day and it has worked the last two times.
Turn the handle to the 3 o'clock position, start to fill, then rotate it around to the normal 6 o'clock as you continue filling. This works for me.

I'll have to ask the guy pumping my gas if he is having a problem. We are not allowed to pump ours in Oregon.
hehe I was thinking the same thing.

I also live in Oregon. The first week i had my carthe attendant over filled it i was not happy. Butother than that i really never had any problem with it not filling up all the way. It takes about14-15 gall to fill her up and i never have them top it off especially after the first incident.
