Default Hood liner melt???

Installed GT500 strut tower brace. It looked like really crappy the black powdercoat or cheap paint actually melted into hood liner a little bit. My buddy had exactly the same problem. So I stripped it to baremetal, painted it match and reinstalled it. It seems like that helped some, but sure enough I think the hood liner surface damage was enough now it is doing the same thing (albeit less) on the clear. I'm thinking about cutting a small portion of the liner out in that area, but I wonder if anybody else has had this problem with their strut tower brace? I can give more details if anybody wishes...

Yes the GT500 strut bar is supposed to be for anyone with an aftermarket hood. Thats why it works on the GT500 becasue of its hood. Many people have had this problem, does it fit if you take off the whole heat shield?

I'm sure it'd be fine if I took off the liner. But I guess it really doesnt make much difference if I cut holes in the liner where these sit anyway. WTF is that thing supposed to do? Cut down on engine noise? Uh - my exhaust drowns out the engine. And since heat is the enemy of all engines, it shouldnt be to keep it warm....so why is it there in the first place?

I believe it's to keep the paint on your hood from getting messed up from being heated/cooled down so much. Without it, I think you would eventually get spotted/faded paint.

yeah paint jobs do not last as long on the hood without them. No idea how much quicker they go bad though.

There was a post about a week ago on taking off the hoodlinner, I believe it is there that if there is an engine fire the liner comes down and smothers the fire. There was a post where someone drove without his hood linner without any problems including paint. Go ahead take the liner off, use an old fork to take off the clips, the shinny hood looks better than the liner anyway.

The 07 hoodliner is made of a much stiffer material than my 06 was. Now I have the problem of it scratching the chrome
on the radiator cap, the engine cover and my strut tower covers. Anyone else have this?
