Default Floor Jacks/JackStand points

Where is the best points for the floor jack and jack stands ?

These are the points I think are OK, but want to make sure not to damage anything.

1) the rear axle tubes near the wheels for jacking or jack stands

2) rear inner frame rail for floor jack or jackstands

3) front inner frame rail for floor jack or jackstands

4) the center of the front crossmember under the engine for floor jacking whole front end at time

5) outer ends of the front crossmember for jackstands

Any pictures of best way to jack or place jackstands would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks waykool,

The diagram is helpful, but I am not sure if that is for a S197. The rear jack points other than on the rear dont look like it would work on the S197. The jack point in the diagram looks to be in front of the rear lower control arm mount. I dont see a rectangular area there, like in the diagram where a floor jack or jackstand would work well. There is a small area with a threaded hole just in front of the control arm mount, but the metal looks like it would deform or bend.

Also, my terminology may be incorrect. What I am calling inner frame rails may also be called torque boxes ? These are more towards the center of the car on both sides front and rear and in the diagram it is shown as jack points on the front.

I just want to find out correct places to jack and put stands so I dont damage it.

Thanks

Since my car has been lowered by 1 inch, first I use the stock jack from the side and raise the car about 2 or 3 inches then with floor jack in the center of the front crossmember under the engine I raise the front until the jack stands can clear the crossmember and put them at the end (it is a perfect fit) for the back I use the differential housing to pick the car up and then put the jack stands under axle tubes near the wheels. Just did it last year for storage and last week to paint the calipers. I hope this helps!!

When I was going to paint my calipers I also couldn't get a diffinative answer as to where to put the floorjack and jackstands. In the owners manual it states not to use the differential case as a jacking point but no one was able to explain why not. Many people subsequently said they did use the differential to raise the entire rear with no ill effects. So I went ahead and did the same and had no problems. I'm not saying you should use my technique but here are photos showing how I did it.

I believe ford says not to use the pumpkin because the car could easily fall if it were to start to sway. They are covering their asses.

The actual jack points for the car jack are just infront of the rear tires where the two metal lips meet and just behind the front tires. There is a rectangle cut out of them. Nobody seems to want to use these spots because they are afraid they will bend or scratch the paint or whatever. I use them all the time if i don't need to raise the whole car.

I have read from others that they have bent the sheet metal in these areas.
