Where did you buy a locking cap?

Are you sure you bought one for the right year?

Yeah discount auto parts, on the stock gas cap theres a black ring that goes around it and has a line going to the door it holds it from falling off, I need to get that off the stock cap and put it on the new one but how?

You have to slip it off the stock gas cap. I was able to slip the wider side (the side with the cord connected to it) off first. You have to use quite a bit of force to slip it off, but you only need your bare hands. Once you slip the ring out, you just slip it on the replacement cap. I didn't have to unscrew the retaining chord either.

I switched to the Stant 10510 three days after I recieved my new mustang on 05-10-07. The plastic retaining chord and ring was plyable enough to stretch for removal and installation on the new cap without damage.

So far, I have not had any warning signals due to abnormal tank pressure. BTW, reading the info on this site while I waited the 6 weeks for my special order Mustang was enlightening. It's the reason I bought the locking gas cap in the first place. There are a lot of punks here on Oahu, so I wanted to make sure I protected my gas tank. I'm also a Police Officer here, so I take extra steps to protect my assets from potential criminal tampering.

FYI: 2007 V/B GT/CS, took delivery 05-10-07 - no mechanical mods except Flowmaster American Thunder Axle Backs.

I put one of two weeks ago and it was a real PITA to get off but patience paid off. I had to get one edge started and just work it around till it came off. It did take super human strength though.

I'm using my locking gas cap without the cord. I don't want it hanging there contacting the paint every time I get gas.
